I tried to register. On the wait list. Even if i don't get selected i plan to go watch. Actually drove by Numidia drag strip today. Very small town in farm country, not far from coal country.
I think they say for Drag Week that if you're on the wait list show up. Apparently enough people don't show up that they've never had to turn someone away that showed up and was on the wait list.
past several years, 40o sign up, 320 registered show up, 35 on waitlist show up, everyone who is there, gets in.
I didn't register for drag week this year for a handful of reasons. They canceled the hot rod class, which is the class that my car fits best into. Also I decided I'm not going to register for events that have a big entry fee when my car is all taken apart, then thrash like a madman trying to be ready for the event. My new method is to get the car ready, get it tested, be satisfied with the performance and the reliability, then register for an event. We're going to be focusing a lot on the land speed car this year, so I'm not so sure I'll have the hot rod put together by drag week time. Hopefully I will, but I'm not going to stress about it.
Did away with the Hot Rod Class???!!! I protest!! What is this world coming to if they don't have a Hot Rod Class?
No, all the old guys who read Hot Rod and drive real old Hot Rods, don't have the gumption to go on Drag Week with their old Hot Rods.
