  10. The display card seems to indicate that Al Bergler(the owner of the coupe) won the Ridler in 1960.

Pretty sure the owner of this car was showing me progress pics of it last year and mentioned he hoped to have it done for this year. I at least think it is the same car and guy when I see the background behind it. I know I was talking to him in that same area.

No, the guy that built the '33 coupe is the same guy that won the first Riddler in 1960 with a Bantam. Further up in this thread there is a pic of that car. (It's now on display at the Speedway Museum)

    Well...

I always try to go to this show. Something just for myself. It's one of the only big indoor shows in this area, and it's kind of a start to a new year and another season of hot rodding.

    But I gotta say...

    Every year it seems...
    More expensive.
    More difficult.
    Fewer cars.

    $20 for gas
    $28 for the show
    $40 for parking!

This is the first time ever that I had to sit down a couple times and rest my ass. Getting old? No. Come on. It's just my lower back and my feet were bothering me. I'm not getting old. I'm not gettin' fkn old.

And it seems every year lately, there are fewer and fewer cars. Fewer overall and certainly fewer traditional hot rods. Even the rodent rods seemed to be lacking somehow. Not that I go to see them. I did notice, though.

Still, I'm glad I went. And it's true, I get to see some cars in person that I would never see otherwise. Got to see the Jade Idol. And one shiny shiny black black hot rod 5W Deuce Coupe that I think is the nicest one I've ever seen in person. And the coolest hemi-powered 1933 Plymouth coupe. And a few others. Just not a whole lot of 'em.

Considering benefit vs cost and effort...
I might not go next year.
    Oh, I probably will anyway.

The Basement has become a bit diluted for sure. A Gremlin, a lot of tubbed cars, and large billet wheels. Some of the Kustoms that were featured upstairs would normally be in the basement. That being said, I still enjoyed it and heck yea I'm going next year!

The Gremlin I gave a pass to because it may not be our gig, but it was all built and funded by a 17 year old kid.

Ed drove this up from Kentucky. It was cold, snowing and raining. He was having issues with the carbs icing up, so we built a fine cardboard carb heater. It was colder on Sunday night when he left. Drove home that night with no issues and still made it to work on time 6AM Monday morning. Trailers are for boats, and hoods are for sissies he says.

I love seeing young guys get into the hobby and I would have told him how cool his car was. I'm not a hater as I own a 79 Z-28 and an 86 El Camino but sorry, it's not basement material.

  28. I think , that if you have some friends, not all of us do, the cheapest way to do this show is to take a car and park yourself there for the duration. Those club guys always look like they are having a good time. The guy I talked to today thought there was easily room for a couple hundred more cars. I hope to go to the Gilmore with a group if they all get healthier- how does that stack up against Autorama?

That blown Chrysler is awesome! Really like the nailhead Chevy as well if anyone’s got more photos :)
