You haven’t really driven stick until the box is more than a half century old, it never had synchro on first to start with, and the slop in the linkages makes the shift pattern close to stirring a bowl of porridge.

    cheers,

Go ahead, lets see if you can successfully operate a "Wilson pre-selector" mechanism !

The Cord (shown) used the Bendix electro-pneumatic preselector to shift what was essentially a conventional transmission ahead of the front wheels. The Wilson preselector transmission used epicyclic gears similar to an automatic. This is a typical Wilson selector:

I think anyone here could pick up the knack for driving either system fairly quickly. Adjusting the Cord mechanism is a lot harder.

I am always truly amazed, at the amount of informational accuracy, that is revealed by H.A.M.B. members, that really do know what they are talking about!
Now that I have been properly schooled, on at least recognizing the Bendix Electro-Pneumatic Pre-Selector as shown on the Cord, I will now rest easy, during my afternoon nap!

Thanks from Dennis for the tutorial !

New Mexico put those big radar units in pickups, cars that were jackedup with a wheel removed & trunk open and even jeeps pall parked on the roadside. Early -mid 50s speed traps. I don't remember seeing them in other states.

Back in the day we only had a couple radar units for the whole township. They looked like shoe boxes sitting on the dash. One of our officers was quite ingenious and took a shoebox and painted it black and would put it on the dash of his unit. The township was mostly residential so 25 or 35 mph on the roads. The two state routes were 45 or 55 and the Intersate was 70 back then. George would catch someone speeding and walk up to the car and ask them if they knew how fast they were going. They would usually try to down play it and say something like 30 or 40 instead of what they were actually doing. He would say really? You want me to believe that? And then he would walk back to his car and write them the ticket. When they asked to see the radar he smiled and told them he didn't have a radar but since they confessed, here's your ticket.

I hate it when they don't pay attention in class. It is Harmonic balancer not Harmonica Balancer. Could be an interesting sound effect if they get the car up to speed.
