Tonight, I was working on eating some good tacos instead of pulling heads off a couple 292’s like I should have been…

Over the last couple weeks I have been putting together a test stand from a wide stance engine stand. I made a slip in frame to carry the radiator and a control panel with mechanical oil and temp guages and a tach. The adjustable supports were from old frame table parts with all thread adjusters to carry the load at the motor mounts.
I had picked up a number of Aluminum Buick 215 engines in various states of disassembly and put one together from the pile and started it today. I used an adjustable link belt to drive the water pump since there was no alternator. The belt can be shortened until it is tight enough to just slip over the pulleys. It worked great.
I expect to build at least two more engines from the pile since I ended up with two re ground cranks that do not appear to have ever been installed and several other engines that I have never heard run including the V8 60, a 350 SBC and a Rover which is also a 215.

truck exhaust elbows can be trimmed into a teardtop. Thicker material, though. Could be used as hammer form.

Worked on putting ladder bars on Bob's Lark on the rack but I thought you guys might dig the A sedan. We had Bobby Walden form a roof skin for it and a machinist buddy of ours made dies for the roller to match the reveal on the c pillars to eliminate the drip rails. 20250301_101230.jpg

I've been taking the 51 apart and bagging parts. As I pull the front end apart, I'm putting the hardware in ziplock bags and labeling them. Some of the hardware is a little flakey. Both headlight buckets had 1 square bit screw. The previous owner had undercoated the car at some point in time, which makes finding all the bolts and screws a royal PITA. I wouldn't mind so much had they fixed the rust before they undercoated. Who does that? If I go tilt front, I've figured out I can move the radiator forward and not have to cut the firewall. Now I'm weighing options on would it be better to move the engine back for balance and if I should build ducts that go out and over the tires to keep the fresh air tubes.

The more engine setback you can get for a class the better in my opinion.

  16. Fixed my steering issue... the front pan hard bar was just loose enough to make driving interesting.

The roof had a piece of sheetmetal screwed to it in it's racecar days. The holes were welded but the metalwork wasn't done.

Last night I worked the passenger side into better shape. It still needs some more TLC but it's much better.

I ordered a bullseye pick to address some of the finer stuff. It will be a good learning experience.

Got up early today and drove up into the hills above San Diego to look at a 67 El camino . Original black plate CA car been parked since 2005, It was 40 degrees up there and I wore a T shirt:) You guy's in the colder areas are laughing I'm sure. Went back to the shop and finished the ladder bars on the lark and finished the dash harness on the tempest. @4pedals came by the shop for a visit and we had a good time talking Hot Rods. Good day in my book:D

After some unexpected down time, I finished up the side panels, built a rear bumper from an old drive shaft, and covered the rear seat. Also did a bit more wiring. I got enough left over material from the seat for a poncho. sides.jpg seat.jpg

  26. Finished it, it's done. Now on to the next project. (Yea, I know< they are never done.)

it’s messier than a tig. But probably faster.
I’ll use dye and a file to level it out then sandpaper and straight edge.
do a slight gasket match on the inside
    seems to have penetrated well.
