Purchased this Buddy L Stout Scarab, had a bad repaint. I removed most of the repaint and it looks much better. Will probably take the rest of the paint off and repaint.
Found at a yard sale today for a dollar! Missing 3 of the carbs and the steering wheel. Made carbs from a pen refill.
Parts can sometimes be something more. A few years ago I had the base of a Wyandotte house trailer. I then got a Wyandotte truck cab from a friend and decided to make a custom car hauler that is now a keeper in my collection.
I picked this up yesterday - Kingsway toys Keene NH- I like them as found and played with. This is pressed steel and looks like they were made for each other. There are no back doors, and looks like there never were- a small chain holds the cartage in place. This company doesn’t have much presence on the web, size wise it looks good alongside1/16 scale ertl stuff. Thought I would share it before it heads to the basement with the others waiting for the toy shrine to be built. The cab has a red underside, and the short trailer used to be yellow, no obvious signs of previous decals.
Trouble was they never used primer and thought that baking the paint on would speed drying and perhaps enhance durability but no trace if paint is visible on the outer surfaces .
I just put up a post over in the “what’s it worth section “ but thought I should put these in this thread as well. The wife wants me to part with some of my stuff and I have no idea what the current market is for these; if there is still any demand. There are about 50 of them with half being Tonka. Any insight would be greatly appreciated… @Ron Funkhouser or @hotrodjack33 ? Thanks!
Hey Bowie, That's quite a collection! It's a lot of work, but my suggestion would be to do some research on Ebay and see what each is going for. I've always done my toy pricing research using ebay. The Mini (smaller) Tonkas don't have much of a following, but the bigger trucks (tonka, Nylint, Structo etc.) can demand decent money. But, right off hand, 2 of them caught my eye...the 2 in the left rear corner. The white Tonka Sanitary Garbage truck is a ONE YEAR (1960) production and can bring $400-500. Also the Nylint Mobile home set can bring $300-400 depending on condition. Also that Green Structo Step Van is probably a $150-$200 piece. Selling Vintage Tonka Toys? Clean them up and put them in a good auction, the cream will rise to the top. If you sell them in bulk you generally get beat up, but at the toy auction they each go to a new home. Good luck.
Hi Bowie, Cool collection ! Jack is the expert on pricing. I never got into researching or selling my junk. I've justed pick up a toy, or Hot Rod part one at a time. Way Too many swap meets! Hey Ron, Thanks for the kind words. I spent my life buying and selling toys...but YOU were the smart one...you kept ALL your toys. You should have included some PICS though!!! Here are some pics of the Pressed Steel and Race Car collection I sent to auction in 2003. They paid off my house...then started over collecting Japanese Tin for the next 20 years. Sorry about the poor pic quality...they were salvaged off an old video tape.
@daylatedollarshort is probably right. Clean them up and run them through a good auction. They should bring a couple grand or so.
