Had a leak around the oil tube on the outside of my oil pan because PO installed some headers and he could not remount the top of the tube bracket to the header flange and it was moving around and thus leaked at the pan entrance .I made a bracket and the dipstick tube does not move anymore .I am in the process of cleaning all his crap off the pan tube area .So after I clean it all good ,what product would be the best to seal the seam to keep the oil from leaking out of the seam?
depends on how the parts fit together. We don't even know what kind of engine it is, so we can only guess.
Not sure I will know when I clean that area lots of old sealant the PO put there but looks like they area is raised some as if there is a plate there
As Jim says, that is usually a cork gasket that decays. Putting sealant such as Permatex Ultra Black may slow the leak, but the only fix is either replacing the gasket or a new pan. I have also seen the flange brazed onto the pan.
Get as clean as possible, wipe with acetone and use Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker if you decide to leave pan alone for now.
