There are some folks who have been actively recovering Mr. Gene Winfield’s memorabilia including photos and parts and ephemera from various California locations and there are plans for a museum to house it all in Detroit, Michigan. Details to follow … Jim
Local Legend to me and so many here in the Central Valley Ca. God Speed to Gene and what a great tribute they will be doing. Thanks for the heads up.
Apparently Gene had a museum planned and a bunch of stuff put away for it. Is this that museum or something different?
While I understand that someone who invests in such an enterprise would want it close to home and Detroit has a rich auto history, it's a shame that they couldn't do it at his place out in CA. I wish them the best and hope it is worthy of the man's legend.
I have the feeling there is going to be an endless fountain of rumors, speculation and ******** about what will come of Gene's legacy...
If you are attending The Selma California Swap Meet March 15th and/or The Duncan Oklahoma Swap Meet March 20th - 22nd keep an eye out for items that might have been taken without permission from Mr. Gene Winfield. Jim
The museum in Detroit is legitimate. It will be maintained by his long time friend Bob Fryz. Many of his items are still missing. They were put in storage in numerous places by the woman that was abusing him. Apparently, she is going to attemp to open a museum with his items.
