Yea, but this show is worth going to as well. Only thing is that most of the cool stuff is in the basement other than the customs area upstairs. The rest is pretty easy to walk through quickly...
Although I appreciate the craftsmanship, and the Nomad is a very well done build, it's certainly not my cup of tea. But then most Riddler cars aren't either.
Well if you took that car and sent it to Bill Hines to touch up a little bodywork on it, and then let Larry Watson do the paint, plop a 6 deuce Caddy motor in her with some pearl white tuck and roll interior you’d have something you could enjoy! Just saying……
The winner has MANY details, but as been noted that the color AND the lighting available kind of make it look too bland together....
I like the 49 Pontiac Chieftain, the black painted wheels sort of fool the eyes so the big wheels with rubber band tires don't stand out
I was perusing videos and there was one that had a title like 'spent the last 10 years building a show car' or something in the nomad. I didn't bother, but you might try finding it @DDDenny
For legal purposes I'll post one Here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-contemporary-55-chevy-thread.1326545/
The field of the Great 8 was pretty weak this year, to be honest. It has been going that way for a few years, and even last year when the field was kind of soft with he exception of the Kindig build that blew everything out of the water. As an owner of a Nomad myself, this is not the Nomad I'm seeking to put together. But that said, I think this was a gutsy choice by the judges. The Nomad was not the flashiest car there. I thought the Pro-Comp Corvette would take the Ridler considering the highly stylized chassis and wild candy paint color, but I was pleasantly surprised by the choice. There was a lot of nice work in the Nomad that was not readily apparent. All of the trim was recessed into the body, so even though it had trim, the trim was basically level with the body, which gave a neat, smooth look. The tailgate was totally hand fabricated, was 3 inches wider than a factory Nomad tailgate, and had the ribs recessed into the panel. Additionally, the liftgate was eliminated and a power window was put in the tailgate (kind of like a square body suburban with a tailgate). The doors were also stretched 3 inches and the pillar was narrowed. They also shaved the drip rails. Of course, there are some other mods that I wasn't super in love with, like the one piece glass and the deletion of much of the Nomad specific trim.
This was a Great 8 car built at a shop my son worked at in 2010. He did final assembly & wiring. It probably would have done good this year also!
