Looking at a 58 Bel Air hardtop. Car needs lowering. The seller claims it has 2 inch dropped spindles and CPP A arms. Rear needs at least 2 inches and the front the same. Would like to end up with a slight California dump. I'm not a bag man and in the 60's I was a coil heater & cutter. I'm sure in today's world technology has increased. I'm a 32 Ford buggy spring guy so the 58 is out of my wheelhouse. Suggestion?
There has to be a shorter spring to lower the car. The 58 Chevy is an X Frame car with coils on all 4 corners. Truth be told, it would be an easy car to bag since there are kits available for it. But I understand your wanting to static drop it. A shorter coil in the rear would do the trick
I lowered my '59 with 3" lowered springs from Coil Spring Specialties. I just told them what engine and trans I had and how much I wanted it lowered. They did the math and sent me the springs. It rode beautifully.
I think the coils are the same diameter top to bottom like my 61. I cut my rear coils 1.5 rounds 40 plus years ago with no regrets
I have a '63 Biscayne that is an "X" frame and we heated the coils on a few years ago.....no problems whatsoever... rides and handles excellent. I also added a modern power steering set up.
