Technical Flathead to T170 RTS Adapter

    What is the specific difference in a 51 MERCURY bellhousing that makes it work rather than a FORD?
    Can you post a picture?

    Thanks for the replies and PM's. Sounds like sleeving the bearing retainer is the way to go.

    I used a "kit" from MEC that need no machining or extra adapters and included the bronze bushing that fits between the original throw-out bearing and the t170 front bearing retainer snout.

    Just curious. If this is true, wouldn't it also bolt to a '49-'53 Ford bell housing with the same minor mod? You would lose the "old style" clutch actuation, but that doesn't bother me.

    Beanscoot shared with me that SKF N1444SA throwout bearing has the correct ID for the T170 RTS bearing retainer and fits with the early Ford setup.
