    I have a 57 chevy 150 4 door but I'm going to make it a 2 door,I've done some reserch on here to do it,it has a 235 6 cyl,with 3 speed,i'm planning to put a 350 with a 4 speed.I allready have the 4 speed,its a saginaw.not the best but its okay.350 I can find anywhere.

well I need some advice on what streight axle to use and how to set up the steering linkage.heres a few pics of the car.

how about none...unless you're doing a radically wild 350 to go in there, in my opinion the last thing we need on the road is more "worn out stock motor with chrome goodies in a street gasser that never sees the track"...no offense, but keep the stance as it is and go with the 60's/70's raked hot rod look...

A buddy of mine recently bought a four door 57 set up kinda "gasser" style. It came with a straight axle set-up already in it. The seller told him the front axle assembly and steering box was from an early Dodge truck.

Sorry, no detail shots of the front suspension and gearbox, but here's the car itself for ya...

I was thinking about puting my 350 from my 74 camaro,it has a solid lifter cam with .504 lift, fully ported heads with 1.94 valves and 54cc cumbustion chamber,1.5 roller rockers with holley strip dominator intake with 800 dp carb sitting up on top.backed with a muncie m21 close ratio with 2.20 first gear, also behind that 4.56 gears.but I drag that car and street dirve it when driven on the street I put a 750 vac secondary on it..i could put the whole set up in the 57?

    no offense taken

Build the car the way you want,,,don't let anybody tell you what and how to build it!

The Question you ask was about the axle,,,,check out the parts that Speedway motors offers,,,,I believe they offer everything you need,,,,

I built a 63 Falcon gasser style street car back in the dark ages (late 60's) and I used a axle and springs from a 48 ford pickup,,,,

Today if I was going to build a gasser I would look for better (safer) equipment,,,HRP

If you want the nose in the air, you can do it really easy and very cheap, without having to do a straight axle: Install a set of 6cyl. coil springs, and get rid of any weight up front that isn't essential. No bumper, inner fenders, etc.
Add a set of 14-inch wheels to enhance the look. Quick, easy and cheap.

here's a really neat 56 that lives a couple towns over. Look real close at the steering linkage, see if you can figure out the trick he used. It's a 50s chevy truck axle.

I did the speed way set up under my 55 4 door and fabbed all the stearing and such be warned it is not a bolt in kit and for the sake of yourself and others on the road ... if you don't know how to weld pay someone who does ...that being said if you want some pics and details let me know my set up is a little differnt as I had to get the drag link around a 9 quart big block oil pan but I'm using the stock box and a modified stock pitman arm and I also left the frame intact but you need to reinforce it infront of the spring pockets

The easiest way to do it would probably put spacers.

If you can scrape up the cash for the Speedway deal here is what it looks like under a car. It is a very doable deal in the driveway...but you must get a quality welder or tack it in place and take it and have final welded.

The gearbox on this car came from a 64 Impala...$25 in a salvage. I built a bracket and made it a cross steer...no hands at 109 mph. The frame section is just 2x3 tubing with a piece of round tubing connecting it at the front.

I cut the frame off at the firewall with a sawsall...jamed in the new tubing and then boxed it in. You just have to make sure that it is level and square...all labor.

This same deal will work with an axle out of a Econoline or Ford PU...and will save you about 1/2 the cost of a Speedway axle. Good luck with your car...I had fun with mine. Ron.
