@DDDenny was curious about our latest acquisition so I told him I would post a picture here Original so cal car , pretty much rust free. Been parked 20 years, rats have f ed up the interior.
I looked at a 66 or 67 ElCamino "field car" in the early 70's, dark blue, 327/auto, all stock. The guy described it as "in really nice condition", it was anything but nice, I don't quite understand how some people can trash a car in such a short time.
I had an El Camino like that back in the 80's, floor leaked, needed rust repair on the back glass and the quarters were a little rusty I built a 350 to mate with the three on the tree. I should have kept it. It was about that color too.
Iv'e had 3... A 66 I drove for years in the early 90s, Loved that car...283 , 3 spd on the column . Later a 67 with a built 406 T400 ,12 bolt with 4.56s . I got pulled over by a Lady cop taking my daughter to kindergarten because she said I was going too fast... I explained the car had a big engine and was low geared... She let me go The last one was a 65 I built for my now wife, 350 T350 12 bolt . we drove that car everywhere. oddly they were all red.
Those boxy early Els are proportional and good looking. My 1st car was a '67 Chevelle. Always thought the tail light treatment on '67 El Caminos was a hit.
If you ever need to 4 full size guys will “fit” in the front seat of a 67 elcamino. Don’t ask me how I know.
My Buddy has a 66 SS 396 , black with the famous Bill Roell , flames over the dog house and back the sides . I’ll try to get an image to share .
Picking it up Saturday ...A lot of dealing was involved , including a vintage full size fiberglass steer which will be heading to a bar and grill in Wisconsin shortly I'm sure we all have really great car buying stories....
I can think of a lot of cars over the years that could have been parked behind the bull. Maybe a few bench racing sessions too....
I screwed up and walked away from a sbc, 4 speed, ‘67 el Camino over $500. Changed my mind on the way home and it was gone. Red, black interior and late model 350. My C10 had a 250hp 327 to go right into the engine compartment.
Mine was kind of a field car, parked on the side of a dirt road in Bakersfield. Towed it to my b-i-l and got it running, drove it to San Francisco. That's it,the middle car next to the wife's vette. The one to the right is a big block car too, tire shop owner's car with an auto, mine's a 4-speed. I guess the backup lights bumper is fairly rare.
My kid , Vito and myself are going to pick it up tomorrow morning. Vito has a mild 327 that was built by Bostick racing engines that made 360 HP at the flywheel. That with a fresh T400 is going in the car. Complete interior is also getting replaced.
