Sorry. I feel I owe it to MYSELF to keep receiving the publication. Don't know or care about any "corporate owner's" ego.

I've given up on Hot Rod after 60 plus years, but there is a very good alternative magazine that resembles the "old" Hot Rod, and that's Rodding USA, with 6 yearly issues, and priced fairly.

I've had a subscription to Hot Rod since I was 12 when my grandmother bought me one for my birthday and bought it every year until she passed away in 1975. I think she first bought it when one of my cousins was selling magazine subscriptions for a school fund raiser.

Still the magazine always was into what was the hot lick new stuff at the time and the hot lick new stuff in 1958 is what we now see as the HAMB friendly cool stuff while the hard core flathead guys were fussing that Hot Rod wasn't giving them enough articles in 1958 and who gave a rippy doo dah about 348 Chevys.
Most of my former students are in their 60's and are serious into the 60's and 70's muscle cars that they had or wanted in high school. One still has his Mustang that he had in highschool and one who passed away a while back still had his 72 Chevelle that he had the first day he showed up for class as a high school sophomore. Those guys aren't much into the older stuff nor the new stuff.

Back to the subject at hand the last issue that is sitting here on the table beside me doesn't hold a lot of interest for me. There isn't much reading in it and just photos and I am not sure how many of those are recent because they got rid of most all of the people who were writing the articles and sold off the stuff in the shop. Not cool when most of us want articles more than a bunch of photos that we aren't interested. We may look at a a bunch of photos of a late model with an LS but we might read the tech article on building the LS simply because it is a tech article and the grandkid has an LS he wants to stick in his Chevy Short box.
I used to buy or subscribe to way too many car magazines and either had a subscription to or bought just about every rod magazine every month for years until I hit hot rod burnout in the late 90's. Burnout because I was at the time one of the brainwashed brigade that thought you had to have to have the newest hot lick stuff on your car to be one of the cool guys. Bailed out and went sailing for a few years and then found some guys who are hard core old school in BC Canada on the net and one of them mentioned the HAMB and I found it and here I found people who liked the same things that I did and didn't give a rip about having the new hot lick thing and appreciated the cool old stuff.

Um, ok. I really liked Pepsi One and felt I owed it to myself to keep the brand alive. Turned out, Pepsi didn't care and killed it regardless.

The old car magazines are the best…and the older, the better!

I am an old Hot Rodder. It's hard to find any information on a true hot rod on the news stand. When I thumbed thru Hot Rod at the local bookstore, nothing related to hot rods.
In another area, I've noticed the constant use of the word "metal finished ". Is that to mean no putty needed? High build primer then color? I'm not buying it. Thanks for letting me rant.

There are advantages to paying for things with old fashioned checks.

I got an unexpected renewal a year ago. I just went to their website to unsubscribe but did not find that option.

Somebody is always working an angle, aren’t they Gary?

It always pays to read the fine print, that’s been common on subs for a while now.

  15. How many of you guys have rec'd the Spring issue?....I've sub'd to Hot Rod for over 50 years;... renew'd my sub this January,...and still have NOT rec'd the latest issue.

sent them an email, got a response that they are looking into it and will get back to me.

saw the latest issue Saturday on the newsstand.

I checked out on my subscription when the pro-street craze hit. Everything tubbed, everything had to have a blower, yada, yada...
Nothing against it, just not my cup. Never looked back.

Yeah, it's a bit of an underhand trick that seems to be played a lot these days. Not a good look in my opinion.

i still have a bad taste from when they pulled the plug on "car craft." they tried to sell me on taking "motor trend" for the remainder of my sub. i told them i'd take the 4-wheeler mag instead. i got one issue. called customer service and the fella said he had no idea what i was talking about...

I gave up on HotRod magazine over a year ago. Been a subscriber since the late 60's, and there's just rarely anything of interest to me.
