Hello guys.. Will a chopped fenderless 37 ford truck look goofy on a 37 ford truck stock chassis? Thanks
The problem is, that with the advent of the fat fendered era, the engine and cab got moved forward and the proportions don't work out like they did in the 1934 and earlier cars.
Thanks for the answers. Let me add more to my post. I bought a chopped 37 pu from a nice guy in Co last year,it's chopped,no fenders,no hood no floor. The frame has a bunch of work done but it needs more. i.e : dropped axle, disc brakes, 9" rear end. Etc.but no engine no trans I found a 37 "running" chassis with a flathead and 3 speed and made a deal for it. I was thinking it would be perfect to just swapping the body on it. With your input,I think it would be best to transfer the running parts and brakes to my modified chassis and to sell the stock frame.
If you live in a state where title and frame numbers need to match, rethink that. I like trucks with fenders. They aren't hot rods in the traditional sense, they are commercial vehicles, farm equipment and toter/haulers. They can be "hot-rodded", don't take me wrong! But I have never pointed out a PU and said "look at the hot rod"...Hot rod truck, sure. IMHO they are more attractive with fenders. But, those fenders are a ton (half ton ) of work and money added to the project. So work within your budget and if that means no fenders, we can still be friends.
Unfortunately the truck didn't come with fenders or hood, otherwise I would try to go that route..I also want to run hoodless to always be looking at the little flathead.
You don't need no fenders. Dare to be different. I'll be in Vegas to pick up your old discarded rear fenders (steel) May-June and won't even charge you to haul them away. Might even pay a few dollars for them.
Thank you! Im really trying to build something nicer every time.. Here's some pictures of the frame, I don't think I could gather the pieces for the amount that I paid.
For people on this side of the pond, it's a 1936 Ford truck body. 1937 Ford trucks had a two piece front windshield among other body markings. The pictured body does not have a two piece windshield and is flat across the front window. Some reading for you. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/35-36-ford-pickup-thread-post-your-favorites.1053678/
Bro, my dear 46 Caddy dude, I will beat you to Vegas for those rear fenders!!! @iwanaflattie I have two extra front 35-7 fenders I’d be happy to let them go cheap if we can figure a way to get them to you.
It appears that we both know that the rear fenders are like striking gold. I drove 400 miles round trip to get a so-so right rear and still looking for drivers side. Portland swap meet coming up and I hope to find one.
Good luck in the quest, I’ve two “workable” ones, but will need someone better with a hammer and dolly than I am. But I wouldn’t sell them for a grand, just don’t see them much in any shape.
Decent frame, the kicks ups in the back before the axle are typically rusted out, from what I see that one looks good
Once you stop worrying about what other people(experts?) think of your rides, it opens up a world of possibilities!
