  9. ..I would never rule it out and hopefully someone will know for sure. I think that it could just be a combination of the size of the top, the skirts and the Black color as well makes it look that way. I see what you are seeing though.

Hmm…I don’t remember thinking it seemed stretched in that area in person, but that was also a year ago at Detroit Autorama.

Check out Ken Costello 39 Ford on Kustomrama. Later owned by Willy Ouimette. Chopped and sectioned (which is responsible for "visually" raising front and rear fenders). One of my favorite 39/40 Ford coupes,, along with Doug Rice's "Bonneville Boomer".

Ken Costello was the first owner and commissioned the build by Hank Fournier. Hank's previous build was a 1936 Ford 5 window coupe. Interesting to see it set the precedent for the 39, being chopped, channeled and sectioned. Combining all three modifications certainly is a whole lot more work but the result is a car of remarkable harmonious proportions. The same approach was used by Valley Customs when they built the "mystery" 1941 Ford coupe.

By the time Willy Ouimette found the 39, it was a mess sitting on a tri five Chevrolet chassis, which he retained. He added running boards and the result lost its original harmonious proportions. (BIG MISTAKE IMHO)
