Technical Double Headlight bars...

...on a fendered Model A sedan?

What are your thoughts on installing a second narrowed headlight bar for driving/fog lights, below the headlight bar that attach like the above bar to the fender braces? Anyone ever done this or have seen it done? Replies with photos preferred, constructive replies second, all others last.

Narrow the lower bar and heat/bend to match the curvature of the fenders/braces. Just thinking about it before I ruin a spare headlight bar...

 

`1958 sew a lot of 4 headlight sets. As it was the new thing any way. Fog lights were often mounted off a custom bracket. Some times hung upside down from standard bar. There's a lot of ways to skin a cat,they say .

I mounted my fog/turn signal lights on my bumper bolts on my 32 pickup. HRP

 

Always liked the 32 Chevy factory dual headlight bar, I've seen them with the cowl lights mounted below as turn indicators but usually fog or driving lights look better at the spreader bar level. might be easy enough to mock it up with some scrape conduit & get a real feel for it.

If I do a second bar, I imagine the fog lights would be 6-8 inches higher than your truck's. Not planning on running a bumper...

 

I think you’d be better off buying a new set of headlight cups and either mounting them in the existing bar so the lights hang or buying some solid rod as well and making the second tier from
Scratch. Kinda like a nerf bar.


It could drop down from just inside the headlight cup area and slant center a bit then cross over maybe I’ll do a sketch.
Do you have the fog lights?

Personally, and you didn’t ask for opinions, (but may help others looking for ideas), I would move them forward and mount them on the chassis like a lot of hi-boys are done.
Make a bar on stands along the lines of this, but the cups would be closer together.

@clem I’ve thought of something like that…mounting flanges on frame horns, only mine would arch up and in with the fog lights close together and in front of the radiator.

 

There might be a few ideas here, or inspiration of some kind……….

Didn't have time to mock up my idea as I was running fuel lines (success!)

Here's what my original thoughts were...

 

Put me in the last category. It would be unique. You could incorporate your liscence plate. I still wouldn’t care for it…

 

I did find this , it was from the hamb. Maybe that puts me in the first category .

 

That is different Brett, allow me one more suggestion,how about adding a Deuce style spreader bar between your front frame rails similar to the picture above but use a heaver piece of round tubing. HRP

 

@HOTRODPRIMER That might be my backup. I was already going to make a spreader bar out of the brake actuator shaft...the one with the dip in the middle. I was going to add a second actuator bracket and hang my CrossMembers tag from it.

I’d consider mounting the club plate from one of these bars. Adding a third as a spreader bar to mount the tag and it’s gonna start looking like you ran into a ladder or something pretty quick lol

I was also going to suggest this, but having now seen the real thing, I think I much prefer your original idea as per post 13. Although on a full fendered car that may still work.
At least you can make up the bar and sit it in place without drilling holes in your fenders, until you make a decision.
You could still have them forward of the headlight bar, if that looks better, with a second bracket in behind the guard.
May look too ‘busy’, you won’t know unless you mock it up !

Not a double bar but very well executed.

 

This is how I did double fog lights on my A roadster. The spreader bar is a brake bar from a model A adapted to fit the front horns. Works for me.

 

Thanks all for the examples! Some are quite….unique….others are well executed. Seems to be a fine line between the two.

Please keep in mind that my sedan will be full rendered, which can make a difference in room, mounting surfaces and aesthetics.

That idea is teetering on the fine line between cool and cluttered. I've always liked the look of HRP's setup on his truck because it just does not look busy or cluttered. The fog lights look like they belong just like that rather than stuck on as an afterthought because the cool guys have them. HRP is old enough that he was past the cool guy stage before the current cool guys were even born. Scroll through the pages of great looking hot rods on the HAMB and you don't see a lot of clutter on the great hot rods. Not much of anything stuck on just because the guy decided he needed to stick one more thing the car didn't need on it just because the guys at the spit and whittle club said the cool guys run them.

 

That is art!

 

One can imagine with a second one, the bracket for the fog light is a modified headlight bar.
If not for the huge light, at least the bracket.
