Technical Period-Looking Bucket Seats...Options?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by brett4christ, Jan 3, 2025.

  1. You know boat seats like they used to sell at Walmart look a LOT like factory model AA seats.

While "not breaking the budget", given the cost of quality products today and the cost of reupholstering, I'd think you'd be lucky at $500 a seat unless you can do the work yourself. Give us an idea what your budget really is. This guy makes re-upholstery kits for lots of cars. I had good luck redoing Fiero seats but that has been quite a while ago.. http://www.mrmikes.com/miata_to_triumph.htm

  6. I was just going to post this. Anyone who needs some seats, these seem pretty good and repairable. They're at the Pick Your Part (LQK) in Santa Fe Springs in a 1959 Volvo 544.

This is a drivers seat out of a bus that @Mr cheater found during a recent junkyard trip. A bit tougher to find a pair but the look is perfect and they're period correct.

I like the Volvo seats that @1oldtimer posted above as well. Those cars are tiny, I bet those seats are an ideal size.

Tough to find seats that are cheap and the back folds. Looked at all the above and ended up with a mini van bench I got for $20. I took off the old cover, used that for a pattern and my Wife made a new one. Pro car has Mustang style seats and check Ebay for "hot rod" seats, there are several different ones.

  9. I would have to second the early Mustang buckets. No headrests, they fold forward and re-upholstery kits are readily available from Mustang restoration outfits at a reasonable cost.

Choosing seats is an interesting challenge. More to it than first meets the eye.

Guess it depends how far off the traditional road you want to travel. they're fine by me,though. I've got them in my OT '65 Mustang. :)

  12. Brett, I had good luck with the early Mustang buckets 64-66 and they fit the tight confines and look like they were made for the Model A sedan. HRP

So I have been following along getting ideas for comfortable seats for my Tudor project that I am gathering parts for. My band was playing at a local car show today and I get talking to an old geezer about his FE powered 63 Galaxy. He tells me he is wrecking an old 64 Mustang and he has the interior and he has the 2 bucket seats that he wants to unload. Big deal I hear y'all say. Well, we live in a tiny country down here and American cars don't get parted out much and they were only $50 for the pair. Sorry to hijack this thread but thanks for all the info that has been posted. Hope the OP gets what they are looking for, carry on, cheers
