My mind has gone on vacation without me. Can anybody tell me the name of the company that makes electric replacement wiper kits for cars with vacuum wipers? If I remember correctly, they are in East Tennessee.

It's kind of strange hanging out with old people the same age as I am!

I was a little excited when I saw this thread. My '32 could use electric wipers. But A.) they don't offer them for any '32 cars (really?) and B.) it looks like if they did it'd be over $500 bucks! Yikes

Most of their stuff uses the original wiper towers and linkage. If your missing that stuff, you need a universal kit.

They make a few universal kits that probably work great in a 32. I would call them, they have more then what is listed on their website.

I have modified a few modern wiper set ups to work in older vehicles. After spending 2-3 days making something work, that $500 doesn't sound so bad!
Maybe you should price out some of the replacement parts that are on the market. Before 2021, a rebuilt vacuum wiper was $450, if you had a good rebuildable core. The turn around time was 12 weeks, they would rebuild your core. I priced one out.

I was chasing a single wiper kit for my United Pacific 32-5w and couldn't find any info on the Newport Engineering site so sent them an email. They eventually replied and said to ring them. My phone contract doesn't include International so I gave it a miss. Closer to time I tried again with same result. So I went with MightyWiper which fits behind the header panel and works fine.

    Times 2 for Newport

  13. There is also Specialty Power Windows. Their wiper kits are a little different using a cable inside of a tube design, with adjustable degrees of sweep and cable length. Heard about them from a fellow Hamber that has their kit on his car.

I've used Newport in five different builds and never, I mean never, had a problem.

Try mighty wipers / rain gear . They are in the Pacific Northwest . The company started from building a motor for the founders 34 3 window.

SPW can be darn difficult to get the outer tube up the A pillar in some car and have gentle enough bends to allow the drive cable to flow nicely. Though it is nice having the motor under the dash. On our 37 I used the old English equivalent of SPW cable wipers , mini, jag, Austin.morris, triumph etc etc.

Used the Newport system in 2 different builds. Flawless performance, easy installation.

The only problem I had with Newports, and these were older ones, was the knob. Sure looks out of place, I went to some trouble to make an old knob fit. Maybe they fixed that problem since then?

  19. I used the Newport in my 53 and the switch shaft was made so the original knob could be used. That was about 5 years ago, so I guess they fixed it. The kit they make for my Buicks has a knob that resembles the original and fits in the original location in the upper dash. The switch is rotary instead of pull up.

Another multiple Newport wiper installer....they work great.
I agree with @squirrel , the knob is "out of place"....cheap/generic looking.
Adapting a better/quality knob corrects that though.
