I sat down today and flipped on the t.v. for the first time in a while...flipped through the chanels and then i turned on everybodys favorite sell out show...and then i turned it off...i saw them once again as usuall rushing through another project...that ***** duane was chewin out one of the guys for going above and beyond to do quality work...thats when i turned it off...he said something like 99% of people wont be able to tell that those corners aren't perfect...now I know that are cars are not trailer queens and by no means perfect but to sit there and watch that duane guy bash on the dude for straightenig out a body panel for a customer whos paying top dollar for a car... that was just a thought:(

  2. here's my thought...it is a TV show and doesn't have anything to do with the real world

American Hot Rod is no different than watching Leave it to Beaver , Deal or no Deal , or Dancing with the Stars

somebody ought to have a show like the New Yankee Workshop woodworking show, only for cars. where you watch it and see how things are done right, and maybe learn something.

no drama, no ***holes, no big rush to get it done.

I'll never understand this limited time frame thing on these shows. luckily for me I don't have cable soI rarely get a chance to see them

Amen, are we really supposed to believe that Boyd allowed all those stupid pranks around the shope before the cameras were there? If I was being asked to work through the night on someone elses car, I would be pretty upset at all the time taken out of the day to mess around. The reason the guys in the shop aren't upset is because the Discovery Channel has asked them to do so.

Also, I know someone that was in that shop while the Discovery Channel was filiming. I asked what car were they buliding . His response was "No Car". They were just shooting guys working on random stuff to use as fill in shots later.

Television pretty much ****s these days. Especially "reality" t.v. I used to be a fan of John Force until I saw his show, Driving Force. Just shows this ***hole yelling at his daughters. Just don't get it.

I saw a couple of the Boyd cars at SEMA last year and was not impressed. Generally mediocre to poor fit, and average finish. I'm talking hoods not properly fit, seams that weren't alinged, etc. For the money he charges, I'd expect that stuff to be perfect.

If it wasn't for 'Marcel's Metal Works' and "Gabe's Upholstry' it wouldn't be worth watching. There is a reason that poeple are not dying to get a job there. That intern guy is a joke(the one Boyd fired and he came begging for his job back). I would hate to pay top dollar for a car from that shop and watch the show later to see a novice like him building it.

I agree, If some one would do ashow building cars to the same standards as Norm's wood working we would all learn something. I love that show because there is no fumbling around trying to figure any thing out because that guy is that damn good.

good godfrey, that would be a GREAT show. I'd watch that anyday. Now, I don't understand why there are three or four home building/woodworking shows on PBS, but not one antique automobile restoration show (can't call it a "car show" cause they'd never play it on PBS). Watching some old skilled builder doing quality metalwork, wiring, painting, etc. That would be great!

Two guys garage I think it was, one of the precursors to all the new car shows where they're just a half hour adverti*****t, had some good stuff sometimes, but they never get in depth. I want to see a start to finish, nothing cut out series.

Like when Marcel's did a BEAUTIFUL chop on a '36 3 window and when it got back to Boyd's, they covered it plastic filler? :D Oh, the irony. hahaha

  14. Please tell me that in another building is where all the real customer cars are being built.

I don't understand how every car that they have built on the show is still sitting in the back round?!

I met Boyd at sema in 04. He was an uppity ***** and much like Ness and motorcycles, he does over done nineties street rod ****. I watched a little of that show, but like those above couldn't stomach the BS and obvious hamming it upo for the cameras. Boyd needs to lay low for a few years so the fanboys Falling into the New Fad "old Skool" gan get sick of it nad start going back to boyd styled stuff. then hopefully those of use that like cheap old cars and parts can get those overblown "oldSkool" stuff on the cheap and andmake them work as intended. Yank the SBC and T350 trannies, make that Moon tank functional and hook up the lakes pipes so the blow flames as intended.

I have been approached by a few producers who were interested in making a car show. After spending a total of five years trying to get something off the ground I have come to understand that 1) The guys who write the checks and really control what gets made don't know anything about cars.
    2) If you actually made an incredible show that we would all watch (and buy the DVD), the total audience would not come close to the numbers that they need to sell the thing. 3) The nice guys with checkbooks who might make a car show and not care if they lose money, think that a car show is anything with Dennis Gage and as a result cannot be convinced that there are more interesting people and subjects. 4)Hard core motorheads get no respect,
and Jessie James and the guys at Orange County Choppers aren't helping
    matters.

I don't watch Boyd's show anymore. Now Chip's show (Overhaulin'), that's a different story altogether...

I wonder how much longer this thread is going to last. The moderators seem to step in when I am off topic and the name "Boyd" comes up in a bashing manner. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? KNUX!

Almost all of the Threads about TV shows get Deleted.

Threads about reality TV are a waste of space.

Unless there was somehing going on that made it ON Topic.
