I purchased a 55 Studebaker Champion project 10 years ago that had a Fatman Subframe installed. I have pulled this thing out of storage and to my garage to dismantle and noticed no coils on the front just a threaded rod to set the height. With Fatman out of business I have no way of knowing what coil over I should be looking for. I have searched the net for instructions but found nothing! Anyone have their instructions laying around that have used this product? Thanks!
I used the threaded rod to set the ride height I wanted so that adding the engine and body parts would not change the stance. Then by weighing the front of the car with rods removed using a formula for the leverage on the A arms I was able to get the springs that gave the planned ride height.
As @Sandcrab states, best way to get coils, if weigh car loaded, front and rear axle seperately, then consult Eaton Spring or other vendors to get coils to support that weight.
Here's something. You'd be aware that Fatman has ceased operations? Could I also suggest that you familiarize yourself with the HAMB rules and do an introduction https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/new-to-the-h-a-m-b-introduce-yourself-here.18/
I have that front end under my Stude. They used various Mustang 2 and Fox body springs, depending on which engine you use. I know that 5.0 springs were too heavy for me, I think I used 302 V8 M2 springs, but I can check for you if it helps. I had an all iron 454 in mine, and it rode/drove well.
aftermarket IFS is strictly off topic here. this is a traditional hot rod forum. moving this to the off topic forum
Thanks for the reply, I'm planning on an L29 454 with a L480E. I will probably be reaching out to you!
I know I have the exact spring info here in my records, I'll dig it out later. Know that my car sits very low though.
