Does anyone here have experience spraying Tamco HC4100 and HC2100? I'm trying to decide between the 2, but not sure which way to go, so as always, I'll start by asking here! Looking at just the descriptions online, the only big difference I'm seeing is that the 4100 is 4-1, and the 2100 is 2-1. The rest of the descriptions on both are very similar. Is one easier to spray than the other? Do they both lay flat? I'm not a novice, but haven't done a complete paint job in over 15 years
Just guessing but one is likely a panel or speed clear and one is an overall clear. I have no experience with that brand so no idea how they shoot. Call them up and ask what they recommend?
They are both overall clears. I tried calling, but got no answer. I tried there online chat too, but got no answer there either! I figured I would find someone here that has used those clears. @anthony myrick , @Lloyd's paint & glass.. any others?
First, i have no experience with this brand. Second, IF you've spent big or decent bucks on prep and base coat(s), you're willing to gamble with a clear that has no recognition here from guys that know their stuff? IMO, the clear is vital, its what you see first. I suggest getting a top shelf brand that has a rep for finish work. Ask around, you'll get a name --and BTW be prepared, it ain't cheap!
I haven't used their clear but was very happy with Tamco's 5300 epoxy primer. Besides Bill; @Gearhead Graphics and @Roothawg have also used Tamco products, gave me good advice. and might provide some insight.
I have used their 4105 Extra slow glamour clear with great results. Properly reduced it sprays out and lays down nice. I have only used it over their base coat so don't know how compatible with other brands it might be. It color sands reasonably easy and polished beautiful. I used PPG products for years and like the Tamco products as well or better.
I've used just about everything in TAMCO's arsenal. Both are good clears. I tend to lean towards the high solids 2104.
Thanks, this is what I was looking for, some actual experience with those clears. I am staying away from the high solids because it tends to be a bit harder to apply. Like I say, I've been away from the game for a while. Plus, the medium solids clear are 45%, which is pretty high for a medium solid clear. I know Tamco has a pretty damn good rep, which is why I am going with them
That's not true. I have read good things about Tamco on this site, which is why I picked them in the first place.
Not sure I would be buying paint from a company you cannot get a hold of to ask questions before I even buy it. What happens if you have an issue in the middle of using it?
Trust me, I will be reaching out to them again tomorrow. If I can't get anyone to talk to me, I will shop with someone else. I picked them in the first place because of what I have heard about them. Maybe something has changed with the company
They are super helpful. I had a problem with fisheye and they spent countless hours helping me troubleshoot. They are are reputable as the big hitters and you don't have to be a body shop to talk with tech. Don't worry about the high solids. Just spray a coat and let it dry, wet sand it with 400 grit and spray another coat in a day or two. It will lay out for you.
if you plan on cutting and buffing anyway [mirror finish or dust issue] use the high solids. that will give you more material to work with. if it is a spray and go, or light buff , use the "speed" clear.
Tamco 4100 Clear is a production clear & 2104 is high solids "Euro-Clear" I Love the 2104 clear & have shot 4 complete restorations with it. Higher solids than Dupont or PPG, easy to sand & buff. Also NO dulling after several years on my cars. To the O.P.....I am shocked that you did not get a "Human" when you called! Over the years, I have called a half a dozen times & always got a family member who answered the phone & answered my question. Also your question about which lays flatter.....That all depends on who's pulling the trigger & how many times that person has pulled the trigger! LOL These days, Tammy has moved on & now has her own Paint Company (Revolt) which is even higher quality if you want the absolute best talk to her. I've used the Euro Clear on several projects, and am happy with it. No problems shooting it, or sanding and buffing, though it does get hard after a few weeks.
I live close enough to Tamco to just go over there and always found them to be knowledgeable and helpful. I too am surprised no-one answered the phone, although things changed when Tammy left.
Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate all the help I can get! Sounds like 2104 is the one to get. I will be calling them again today. Hope to get someone on the line this time One other question. Do you guys use any reducer, they say up to 10% can be used, or does that make it just run easier?
So I did finally get them on the phone. I have no idea what happened yesterday, but no problems today! They also are recommending the 2104 with a little reducer if I am having problems with orange peel, just have to do a test panel until I'm happy with it, so that is what I will order.
I personally do use the 10% reducer, but as always ......"Your Own Preference" . We all like to do things our own way. God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
I spray with a 1.4, but I am thinking of dropping back to a 1.3. This is with an Iwata LPH. I know this was aimed at the OP, but I figured I would chime in.
Tamco has a spring sale from March 20-23 with 15% off. Just use Spring2025 in the discount box @ checkout. I am on their mailing list and got the notice this morning.
Great, now ya tell me, I placed my order yesterday! Edit: Just got off the phone with them, and they are giving me $78 in store credit! Very nice of them, as they really didn't have to do anything. Made a new fan out of me!
