    The PRS has always been considered one of the top shows in the national scheme of things. I'll bet most shows have some high and low points, pick a show, people will have their opinions, people will come and go like the ocean tides.
    I was first a member of the MHRC in the early/mid 70's when I belonged to the Counts Car Club, one of Portlands' first car clubs.
    When the truck club I belonged to joined the MHRC there was a council member that attempted to make the PRS into his personal enterprise in the 90's, he had big plans, that along with the typical club politics soured me.
    I do hope the show goes on, it would be a shame for such an iconic event to fade away.

    Agreed, the vetted current "shoes" are like wearing sneakers with a tux. Both are cool, but not at the same time. :cool: Unless you're on ESPN or some such nonsense.

    I get that it would be tight but if I bring 4 cars, or even two, I doubt I would do a display. That is a lot of work. Depending on the weather, I could be trailering them one at a time, that would suck balls! Clear day, I can just drive them over. Ooof, Sunday would suck balls too. No likely getting 2 dry days in the PNW in March. Thats a feet for June!

  5. because it’s been the same name since 1956 and even then it was not just roadsters. Always been a mix of stuff.

    Gas to get there = $25.00
    Parking = $13.00
    Admission = $22.00
    Beer = $10.00 plus
    Hot Dog = $10.00 plus
    Dodging mobility scooters = free
    Waiting for the groups of people to get done BS ing
    with each other to see the car = free
    Complete lack of venders. So Cal used to have a display,
    Ron Covell used to put on demonstrations in metal work,
    Body dipping vender, Local builders with partial projects
    showing their work, Chrome shops. GONE.
    I can wait for PIR and see a 1000 plus cars this summer.

    I snagged a trophy years ago when I put my shifterkart in a Karting display.
    Hey, it's a roadster!

  8. it’s gonna be interesting for PIR this summer. Since Beaches is now gone. The new promoter who has taken over is supposedly messing with things from what I heard at the roadster show. Might be opening up to more more late model stuff.

    I agree, I liked it better with the chrome wheels and the white walls.

    Having year limitations is anti Portland. Inclusiveness is the key to harmonious unity. :cool: Thank god were in a bowling alley! I may have to start my own Wednesday night get together. Hmmm.

    The last Beach's run was open to any car that showed up. Including those that couldn't find a spot at the local Walmart. I was told it was because it was the last show. Could turn into a real problem if people don't want to park in the outside parking area and walk or wait for the bus.

  12. I've wondered this myself for some time. To me it implies hand built special interest narrow field of Hot Rods. In its infancy it was. Then to grow it let in Customs.

    A mix of "STUFF" is an understatement and misleading. Cleaned up grocery getters and Heavy equipment with flames only qualify as "Stuff" and not even close a Hot Rod or Custom of any kind related to Roadster show interest. I understand the bleeding hearts not wanting to hurt any feelings by saying no you can't be part of this, but this is what happens, or it dies.
    I applaud the H.A.M.B. for setting the timeline guidelines and rules and sticking to them. This is a case of Less is More.

  13. I will agree with you here Mark and were it the first or second time you'd seen them on display they make us feel good. After year after year after year of the repeat participation you kind of slow down as you walk by saying, "Hay looks like they are aging pretty well", and keep walking looking for something new.

    Partly relevant but not really, just a snarky guess............
    I bet you (many of us) know someone that is sort of an "unwashed car guy" and more than once you've heard them call nearly any pre 40 hot rod a "roadster".

    As the others said it has been the same name since 1956 but for a good number of years there was another big show in Portland every year. They were just far enough apart so that your wallet had almost recovered from one before you went to the other. For my wife that usually meant that we got two weekends in Portland back in the days when Portland was fun and safe. Both shows were in the Convention center and you could get a motel within walking distance and go to the show, have places to eat and party and never have to drive. The strange goth kids were harmless.

    Several years ago I was wondering around at a car show and there was this young attractive girl sitting in a car which as I remember was a Willys 3 window coupe.
    I said , "nice car" and she replied that it was a roadster. I told her that it was a coupe and she replied that her boyfriend said it was a roadster. Can't argue with a girl who's boyfriend, that owns the car ,doesn't know what he owns.
