Is it true? I just seen a video saying that all of the roadkill programs have been canceled. Roadkill, roadkill garage, roadworthy rescues, etc.... @SamIyam tell me it isn't true? These are the best automotive shows on TV. Actually the only stuff I watch. What a bunch of shit!! Screw discovery!

Apparently all the MotorTrend channel programming has been cancelled. None of the shows will be filming at all. It's not just the Roadkill stuff, it's everything. It's hard to get good info on what's happening with the channel. It looks like it'll be all reruns for quite a while as they determine what's next, if anything, for the MotorTrend channel.

  3. Sadly it’s true, after this season no new content

There all on utube if you do the streaming thing. Print might be in trouble to.

Hearst Publications bought everything Discovery and dropped all the video channels.

Yep, sad but true. Only a couple of shows I could tolerate anyhow.

  7. Is Roadkill the show we watched last week at your house?

I never watched it until I heard it was cancelled on all the social media automotive forums

I watch it on Roku now. I like the Roadkill Garage show best filmed in Bakersfield at Dulcich's grape farm property. Latest tragedy, Big Joe the dog got killed hit by a car. Sad news. He liked to run after cars. You could always see him in the back ground running when they went for a test drive

Afraid I might be in the minority as it pertains to Roadkill or other spinoffs of Roadkill. I just got bored with the emphasis on trying to put cars together with minimum effort towards making them strong and safe. They should have called the show Rat Rod Garage since it seemed they are always sad when their builds make it somewhere without breaking down.

That is exactly what I have understood. This all went down last November, all the shows and their host were axed from Motortrend. As of the other day quite a few of the hosts were purchasing the show project vehicles from MT. I also believe there are still a few episodes from a couple of shows that were produced and not aired, those may show up shortly but after that it is rerun land until MT comes up with some new content or drops off the end of the earth.

  13. Maybe they will follow Ian Russell & Full Custom Garage and start a You Tube Channel, he seems happier without being rushed to finish builds in record time. HRP

Nothing better to me than watching actual testing on engine masters, or learning about history from Steve Magnante on junkyard gold. Real car stuff. Making a model A coupe run 8 seconds? No electronics? If you don't like that shit, then you're a street rodder and not a hot rodder. Watching Derek Bieri pull a 37 Chevy out of the weeds and make it run and drive after sitting for decades? C'mon man. This was real car shit, not over thinking a project for 20 years and then dying without ever driving it. Pisses me off. Yeah Andy we were watching those shows. Guess I can delete the discovery+ channel now.

I believe "they" are trying real hard to make car guys ignore the TV.
Maybe with the shows some like to watch being gone, maybe it will result in more time spent in the shop actually doing something.
I pretty much quit watching TV when all the commercials went off the rails 4 or 5 years ago. We don't do pay TV here, if we can't get it over the air waves, its not on our TV.
Now, if I was only smart enough to walk away from this computer a bit more....

Derek has a huge following on Youtube (ViceGripGarage). That is what Roadworthy Rescues is based on.

I watched a lot of the shows, but Bitch'n Rides was the only shop that produced a car I'd want to own.

I like that show simply because cost is never mentioned or discussed. We just know that it is high dollar. Making things perfect is the whole focus with each person in the shop. No they don't build "traditional" cars but that is neither here nor there.
Throw in that when they are at a show doing their meet and greets they treat each and every fan as if they are special, have you hand your camera or phone to one of their people so you can get photos of yourself with them and Kevin treated my wife like a favorite aunt when she met him.

On the other hand I liked Roadkill simply because it was laid back fun that didn't require you to totally focus on every word and some of his jump in the rig and take off on a road trip videos stopping at those places your folks wouldn't take the time to stop at when you were a kid are fun.

The streaming thing takes some time to get used to, lots of free stuff once you figure out how to use the hand control. Voice controlled, hand held is really great. You can get a good idea what Pebble Beach is like, if you cant get to sleep call in "How to Wire a Hot Rod" ;)

    Hey @Lloyd's paint & glass
Hey Brother, I know exactly how you feel about the loss of the varied programs mentioned.
Politics and money, are always at war with each other, and the result is often never good, in regard to what the public likes and wants.

I may be way off target here, but in this day and age, YouTube is far more interesting than any of the ancient big 3 networks, ( CBS, NBC, ABC ).

I stepped up to the plate and paid for my annual subscription to YouTube, to avoid the commercial interruptions, and it was and is very well worth it.

Just speaking for myself here, if "YOU" (LLOYD) were to start your own YouTube channel, I for one, would watch what goes on in your shop and your world.

No holds barred, just pure hillbilly, hot rod stuff.

But that is just me, it takes a lot of effort to shoot new material and then do the editing of it while you are trying to live your life as well, and run a business at the same time, and still respond to fire department calls, etc, etc.

Matt @Hitchhiker does an excellent job with his Seattle Speed Shop YouTube Channel, but he will tell you that is takes a lot of effort to shoot it and to edit it.
I look forward to what ever you post, via YouTube, in the future!
    Thanks from Dennis.

  24. I talked to the owner of the Copper Caddy and he said he had north of $900K invested. Yes, I would consider that high dollar!

Well I gave up on the regular TV car shows years ago. It's YouTube for me with Cold War Motors, Fitzee, Strong's Garage, Make it Custom, ColdStream, and a few more. No BS, tips on how to do stuff, no "drama", etc.

I’m the opposite. I quit watching Kindig years ago, as I have zero interest in high dollar cars built with somebody else’s money.

Then again, I spend more time looking at, and enjoying cars in the Suede Palace than in the main hall where the AMBR cars are exhibited, while at the GNRS.

I met Freiburger, et al when at either the Duck Tape or Zip Tie Drags at Tucson Dragway a couple of years ago. They seemed like All-Right guys.

Not sure how the former crew is going to fare in the long term on YouTube. I don’t know how Tony Angelo’s channel is doing rating wise, but I noticed I am not actively seeking it out. Same with the off-road guys. Dulcich hasn’t found his feet yet. Too much tire shredding and not enough content. He was better as a sidekick than as a content creator.

Freiburger is still fun to watch, but I sometimes cringe at what to me seems a lack of prowess with a wrench.

    I wish them all well.

FYI, my son got a Family Plan for YouTube Premium so they could watch ad free. The plan includes five subscriptions, so he included me as one of them. Best Christmas present ever, as I’m a cheap ass when it comes to paying for things like that.

The question is what happens to MotorTrend channel now? They can't run reruns forever. Do they plan to just shut it down??

I like that car, and remember the build and inspections along the way with the owner, seamed like a really nice guy that was having fun with his money. Lots of guys were taking home a pay check thanks to him and others that had done well in business at some time. Topic for another Car Show would be interviews with owners of the "High Dollar" builds and Pebble Beach level restorations on their careers that allow them to have the funds to fund the builds. What did they invent, invest in, advice for todays young people, that is something people would watch.

I don't begrudge the super rich guys who commission mega buck custom cars from the elite builders at all. Their rain makes everyone's grass grow, it helps keep the talent in our hobby fed and surviving. I'd rather see that than going out and buying Lambos and all that. If I had that kind of scratch to spend I'd do exactly what they're doing as well. More power to 'em.
