Yep some long forgotten person has screwed our 32 cabriolet quarters big time. We have the ability to fabricate entire new quarters but desire not to if we can avoid it. Measuring up a buddy 32 5w and his cabriolet it seems like they may fit ,though clearly not a direct swap . Body lines in different places and different widths. 5W quarters are longer which is good. The main body reveal is wider making an interesting challenging transition. The reveal by the deck lid edge on the 5W is non existent on the cab. I'm sure the 5w quarters could be reworked to fit but as you have found they require a ton of work but probably your best choice as the roadsters are longer due to the shorter doors & concave shape over the wheel well.
When you look at them individually they seem close. Being I have both the coupe and cabriolet they are very different. I believe the coupe quarters are closer then the roadster but closest would be 3w I wish you were closer as I have extra 32 cabriolet quarter panels as well.
This is why we believe new quarter could be an option. Not sure if you can understand what’s going on but the whole top of the quarter from top to bottom has been boogered with. Not even full monkey welded, the patches are twice the size of the hole , all shaped with a welding pick . The new brookville deck lid we got to replace the very ugly gl*** one with glued on lovers , doesn’t fit the hole ,so the quarters are the wrong shape. It’s got the usual wheel well and B pillar rust , just been bogged over.
@continentaljohn . Now that is how I wish our quarters looked, nice, and honest. WOW now if I had a way to get those down under . I stumble on a story from the PO who stated “ I have examined this car very carefully and can find no sign of any rust or repair anywhere “ ??? On a positive the doors are nice. But it stops there.
How are we going to get those Cab quarters from Illinois, USA to New Zealand? As hard as that sounds, it might be the easiest and cheapest way to save the @Kiwi 4d Cabriolet.
We do have a shipper in Linden NY ,my son shipped his TROG Harley home with. I have just started a conversation with @continentaljohn , to feel out what his thoughts are. So far the 32 has 90% HAMB parts with it .
best option so far, putting original parts back on if possible, (even if it takes a bit of effort and time to get them here).
@clem . This wreck will be a little more restored in appearance than our other 32s. So yes I would favour original parts. Luckily we have all the hard to get window mechanisms and tracks and rollers , plus all the top parts.
