Featured Technical old school gauges installation

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The_Cat_Of_Ages, Mar 5, 2025.

  1. First id test that it actually works. Then I'd grind the mount to fit. Honestly from what I've seen the bigger SW gauges like that are more common

You should be able to open up the gauge bracket with a die grinder or a file. I have put those notches in the bottom with a file too

  3. Kinda surprised that old of a gauge pod used the smaller gauges. The 1969 SW pod in my 53 Chevy uses the bigger ones

That doesn't look broke. 12.9 at idle isn't bad for a generator, and 13.5 is on the low side but still not bad. I would adjust the voltage regulator.

  8. Honestly if you look at the average rod back in the day the gauges didn't match. Famous milner 32 from American Graffiti had something like six different style sw gauges along with multiple sizes. So if anyone notices the difference just explain it's authentic ;). Also in my 53 bel air I have 3 different style sw gauges. And not counting the junk tach I only have four sw gauges lol

  10. Gotta remember function was priority then. And whatever you could grab cheap and quickly to function lol. But yeah a few years ago I built a channelled version of milners 32 in 1/25 scale from a revell kit and did a LOT of research on the actual car lol. Found it funny that there wasn't actually a radio in the car despite the scene of milner cussing the beach boys lol

  11. my personal theory is that he had a battery powered handheld radio stuck below the dash.

  12. Also .....where did the "cs file" pouch with All the tickets go? Lol
