I've just been wondering if anyone on here remembers a yellow '32 roadster with a 392 that was all around Seattle in the late 60's. When I was a kid my Dad had a friend in Ballard that had this yellow '32 Ford roadster with a 392 and torqueflite. George had a body shop in Ballard and was killed in a one car high speed accident around 1970 in a Jag that he also had. I've always wondered what happened to the roadster. I think I know where it was stored but the sheds were torn down around the late 80's or early 90's and I didn't live in the area at the time so didn't know about it until it was too late to look for the car. I don't think George had any family that would have taken it but maybe. I've just always thought it might have been sold when they tore the sheds down as George was long gone. They were pretty rundown sheds a whole row of small single car garage type units along Leary Way. Anyway, it just came to mind again and I thought hell, I might as well ask. Mark
Unless it was shown in indoor shows between 60 and 62 or was driven on the Renton Loop I couldn't say.
A bricklayer I worked with years ago by the name of Mike Duke claimed to have one in Seattle in the late 50's/early 60's, but I don't know what color it was.
Could it be that it wasn't actually a roadster? but a chopped 5 window? I have a friend Bob (current age around 75) who had a yellow 32 5 window in Ballard in the 60's. In fact, he still has the car. His family owned a lumber/hardware company. I last heard of the car several years ago. Bob was trying to get some work done on the car. He lives winters in Arizona now.
Gearheadbill, Do you mean chopped as in the top cut off or chopped as in lowered roofline? This one at least looked like a roadster, no roof. I always thought my Dad called it a '32 Ford roadster and I assumed it was, because of...no roof. If that sounds like your friend's car, it's possible, he may have bought it from George. The last time I remember seeing the car could have been around '62 to '67, maybe later. At that time it had a 392 hemi with a torqueflite, big Racemaster type slicks, etc. The owners name was Geore Cubbins, the last time I saw it he was over to visit my Dad and when he left, he smoked those slicks for about 500 feet, my Mom came running out of the house thinking there had been an explosion or something. Pretty fun to see, I was probably 12 to 15, hard to remember exactly. Any way to ask your friend about his cars history?
There’s a couple guys here familiar with the Seattle scene, Hitchhiker and 41 GMC K-18. Might reach out to them in case they missed this. It was a bit before my time, and I was down in Renton. Didn’t see a lot of Seattle guys until the loop got famous.
G85 No. 5 window for sure. Yellow, hemi powered, Ballard 60's era. Stored since in lumber sheds at Home Builders Center on Nickerson just east of the Ballard bridge. His name is Bob. PM me and I'll give you the last phone number I had for him.
@gearheadbill you might want to edit your reply about location in that last post . I found it in less than 5 minutes on google earth. Sure does,nt look like the best part of town. If Bill is taking a Sunday nap maybe a moderator can step in.
34 GAZ. All the sheds are long gone as is the business. The car was relocated to Arizona 7-10 years ago.
P.S. Pretty much all of Seattle is now or soon becoming a shit-hole. Just ask my grandson who is a deputy sheriff in King County where Seattle is located. Lotsa people still live there though .
Thanks for all the reply's, guys. I'm hoping I can at least turn up a little information eventually on where the car may have ended up. Bill, I'll pm you for the number. Since your friend was active back then he may well know a little something about George and the roadster. Actually this all just jogged my memory and I do remember getting a ride from George in a 60's Corvette after I first saw the roadster. So kind of dates the timelines to early to mid sixties. Thanks again to everyone for their input so far, really appreciate it.
