I have been waiting to finally fix this drivers door. This was another patch on top of original metal all covered in Bondo, like an old roof with too many shingles.

    red343-1-25-1.jpg

    All better.

    red343-1-25-5.jpg

    red343-1-25-4.jpg

The other side was way better, but still holey enough for a panel.

    red343-1-25-7.jpg

The passengers side has definitely been the easy side of this little car so far.

    red343-1-25-8.jpg

Alright, so that's it. The last of the structural metal work. Still some Bondo to uncover, but this is everything that makes the body solid and structurally sound.

Next up is most likely front suspension. See ya.

  3. Just went through the thread, great metal work and skill. This poor car deserves it after the PO abused it so very badly. Following along .

  9. Nice work on fixing all of the poor quality old repairs. Looking forward to watching the chassis improvements and also the drivetrain choice. For obvious reason I predict a Pontiac, or second bet on an older OHV V8 like Olds or Cadillac.

Wow! What a save! You replaced all that metal and the body probably lost weight... hahaha.

    Nice work, as always!

  12. Are my eyes deceiving me or does that car have a '33 door on one side?

Good eye on the door deal. Yes, one door is '33, but it won't be when it is done. I have always liked the smokers window web in the door top.

I have been hoarding these straight spokes for a while just waiting for this little car to come along.

    red343-23-25-1.jpg

But, they weren't gonna go on this ugly axle.

    red343-23-25-2.jpg

Better do the 'ol FlamedAbone Angry Inch Crossmember Modification (tm)

    red343-23-25-3.jpg

Yea, I beam! Way better. By the way, this is the Tiawan forged axle that you might see from various vendors on the internet. This is the second one I have had and they are a very good quality forging and a very good axle overall and, if you look around, you can grab them for under 300 bucks. Not as good as Henry, but not horrible either.

    red343-23-25-5.jpg

This thing had an 8 inch on leaf springs when I got it and the rear end is way in the wrong spot, but fear not, it is not permanent.

    red343-23-25-4.jpg

Yea, a roller. Finally done with the structural metal work, so now it is all fun stuff until it gets to bodywork season.

    red343-23-25-6.jpg

    See you next time, -Abone.

  16. That is an inspiring transformation. Do you have a pattern for the subrails, or do you just do one side till it looks right, and then mirror it on the other side?

Don't know. It needs a bunch, probably 4, maybe 4 and a half just in case.

Lookin real good, keep up the great workmanship. 4 1/2 chop is sweet with the A posts on a slight angle!

Are you doing a straight down chop again, or trying a slanted post on this one?

Gotta figure out where the radiator goes, 'cause next up, is stuffin an engine in this pile.

    red344-6-25-1.jpg

Some of you have seen this lump on the stand and have speculated on what it could be....

    red344-6-25-2.jpg

Might as well pull the Band-Aid all in one shot. Yep, its a godamm small block Chevvie. The last one of these with the Cad engine with the chrome carburetors kind of got out of hand, so this heap is going to be a bit more budged friendly.

    red344-6-25-3.jpg

And a T5 transmission. "dun been rebuilt some years back".

    red344-6-25-4.jpg

I forgot how tiny these things are, pretty much fell right in there.

    red344-6-25-5.jpg

Gotta get the steering box in the right spot.

    red344-6-25-8.jpg

And there it is, she fits right in there.

    red344-6-25-10.jpg

Stock rubber mounts on caveman bracketry.

    red344-6-25-9.jpg

And now, my journey to the Dark Side is complete...

    red344-6-25-12.jpg

The rear end is still sitting way too high, but I am not getting rid of the 8 inch until all my quick change stuff shows up.

    red344-6-25-13.jpg

Not sure what is next, maybe ladder bars, maybe pedals? Tune in next time to find out.

    See ya, -Abone.
