Quick update, got the metal for boxing the rails and I’m trying to schedule a morning to make the new motor mounts in metal.

My good friend Jimmy who’s shop we’ve seen a lot through this thread. In parts picking and shop photos to drool over in equal amounts, has died. It’s set us all aback, and honestly just in shock.

Messing with hotrods has always been a go to coping mechanism and right now that just makes me think of him so, I don’t know. I guess I’ll either make a lot of progress or I won’t go out there at all. Not really sure right now but whatever happens I’ll keep ya posted.

Whenever I'm down I go for a walk, or a series of walks, usually at sunset or just after dark, and just let my mind think about nothing. Usually there's some sort of wild animal to see or someone trying to run me off the road, so whatever was keeping me down takes a back seat for a bit. I'm sorry you lost your friend. Hang in there.

Tim, Sorry you lost a friend. Good ones are hard to come by. Remember him but make new ones or you'll run out of them. I have lost several in the last few years. The older you get the more it happens. Hang in and make him a part of what you do.

  11. Tim, take some time to just sort out your thoughts and recall the good times with your friend. Our relationships have meaning. When we lose someone, it is time to add new friends. The older we get, the more we need to find those new friends.

Took the long way around and got the old frame
mounts off and this morning a friend made my mock up mounts out of metal.

Got home and mocked one up, drivers side needs some caked in oil/clay cleaned off the block and then I can get that one mocked up as well.

I think I need to tweak the frame mounts or consider my options for mounting them some more. That’ll be the next step after I clean the rails up for welding etc.

Thanks man, hopefully get the both sides bolted on tonight and start planning for the frame side.

Did a little trimming and got them both fitting great. There’s a little casting , and a slight radius that the mock up pieces didn’t seem to care about that metal does. Got it sorted, both sides bolted on with the frame sides clamped on. Passenger side is pretty much there. Just needs the frame cleaned then tack it all on.

Drivers side the steering box and steering box mount are VERY close so I’m gonna have to fiddle around with that a little more. But feels like there is room to get in there with the mig and make them hold.

then once they are good I move on to the trans mount!

I don't know what rubber mount biscuits you are using but Stude V8s were well known for pulling the left mount apart on torque. It was common to use a short chain restrictor to limit the movement on that side. Looks cool too!

@Six Ball these are what Pete And Jakes carries. I’m more concerned about them squishing down when I sit that big motor on them than anything

I always use Drake's, they have a metal band around them and I have never had to replace one for that reason.
