Hello can you tell me what most is running tire size on your coupes . i was looking at the 700R-16 or the 750R-16 and the 600R for the front . Any pictures would be great trying to get the best stance on the old coupe thanks
The stance looks good but the rear end has to be dropped to get the tire out of the wheel well with 750's on my ex car.
I can’t remember what tire size I’m running, I think 16’s in the rear and 15’s in the front but will check next weekend. Here is some pics.
This thread is a help to me also! My 40 had skirts & lowering blocks in the rear. I’ve been looking at tire size! Mine currently are 205 65 x15. Also loosing the wide whites. Personal taste, isn’t that what Hot Rodding is all about?
@hotrodharry2 , if I was anywhere near that car, I'd probably put 195.70 on front and 225or 235/70 on the rear.
Remember, when you "rake" a stock 40 Ford the rear end fluid gravitates into the torque tube, depleting the gear oil in the differential. Over time, the gear oil dissolves the rubber encasing the torque tube center bearing causing a vibration of the solid driveshaft.
This is very true. I know thee is a seal that can be installed between the Banjo housing and the T T flange. I'm currently trying to find more info on what it takes and where to buy one. I know I've also read about it here but so far the search hasn't turned up anything.
Skip Haney on Fordbarn sells a replacement center bearing. Read this https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/printthread.php?t=186780 . The OEM bearing is shown in first photo below. They are very rare and expensive. Go over to www.fordbarn.com and do a search for Torque Tube Center Bearing. There was a fellow in Big Spring, TX who was making a seal (last4 photos) to prevent draining of gear oil into torque tube. ALSO, BE SURE AND READ THIS: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301624&highlight=torque+tube+center+bearing
Looks like the car my dad bought off a little old school teacher when he was in high school. His first car btw!! RIP Dad!!
I gotta ask : If those are the sizes on the tires, how the heck old are they? I had used 8.20-25 tires on the back of my '51 Ford in 1959; when I wanted to put them on my new Corvette, they has already been superseded by 9.15-15's. I haven't even seen a 5.90-15 in the last 60 years. Re-pop's maybe?
