Thought I'd stop by and say high. Been a while since I was here. Still have the 34 (3) Window for now but not for long. I have lost all driving privileges because of my stroke in May of last year and as a result have sold it. In doing so I offered it up for 35K to begin with to the first interested buyer, but with no response back from him. I then turned to the original family who built the "Northern Star", of which most here know my hi-boy version was created from, the Jerry Berg family of Bellevue Washington. Jerry who built in back in the '50's is in his 90's , but his son, Eirik, (correct spelling), is middle aged and has been fascinated with his dads car all of his life and has kept track of where it has been and who has had it throughout his entire life and of course I met him early on after buying it back in '94. Eirik, has attended countless shows when I was on the show circuit with the car, so I called Eirik, and offered to him at a much-reduced price $20.000 which I thoought was the right thing to do. He had to say no as he and his wife are saving for his 17-year-old college
funds, but thanked me profusely for thinking of him. I then thought badly about that, slept on it over night and decided that I would GIFT IT back nim and the family. Well he called the next day and said he would have no part of that and said in talking with his wife the had decided to sell one of their ever day drivers, a Jeep and take me up on my offer. Eirik, and his son came over on Presidents day, spent the day with me and the 34 going over ever inch learning everything I did in rebuilding it, starting the Hemi, grinning ear to ear, thanking me for the honor of returning it to their lives, and assuring me as soon as the Jeep is sold they will call and come and retrive what was once there dads car. Not q;uite what lt was in his time, but Eirik, and Logan love it now just the same.

Good to see that the car went to a good home that will appreciate it.
Side note, you don't have a car to be a member you just have to like old traditional hot rods or customs or like old cars in general. Even if you just check in on the board so those of us who might get concerned about not seeing you on here for a while can see when you were last on here and say when you last showed up. 4. @34Larry , wow that is nicest thing I've heard in weeks. It's so nice to hear of your generous and kind offer coming right from the heart.
Made me smile, but with a tear in my eye.

  7. Sad that you had to get rid of the car under those circumstances, but very nice of you to offer it back to the original family.

It was close that i hit the "like" button when i read that you offered the car back to the builders family.
But i cant like that you had a stroke and no longer can drive.
I wish you the best despite the circumstances.

Larry, I know your struggles. I also suffered a stroke, last April. Partially paralyzed on the right side, it was a real battle to regain the ability to walk and get back behind the wheel. We have to play the cards we are dealt. You have made an honorable decision that will help you and the original builder's family. All the best on your recovery.

Rare to find a person of such consideration. The March of time ( health ) has changed my fortunes as well.
I admire the consideration of a gift.
More so that the son will step in to give it a home.
Thanks for sharing, sorry you can't drive. Soon I expect to be flagged.

Sorry for your health changes Larry, I hope your new normal is tolerable for you. You did a stand up thing passing the coupe back to the family! I hope you can still hitch a ride to an occasional show/rod run in the North West this summer.

Great move. Many of us want the next caretaker to be a good one and you surely made it happen. I would love to see a few pics of the car.

Hang in there, Larry. Stop in and say hi now and then.
Bottom line, we’re all just caretakers of any vehicle.
And a very nice thing you did.

    Hey Larry old buddy.
Nice to hear from you again. So sorry to hear about your driving privileges...lost mine for a few months due to some medical issues. too.
The few times we talked (PM) I always thought you were a "stand up" kinda guy...it appears I was right.:D
What a great thing you are doing for the Berg family.

Stay well my friend and keep posting, you were missed.

34Larry you are truly a hotrodder with heart! I know you will take solace knowing your coupe will be in the best of hands. We are only caretakers as long as we are able and I find it truly inspiring how you handled what has to be a very difficult transitional period. My hat is off to you!

Larry, you may have had a stroke, but there is certainly nothing wrong with your heart! The cars bring us together, but it's the people we meet that really make it all worthwhile. Larry, You are The Man!!

  25. Larry, as you know, money is just money. What you did is worth than whatever money could buy. Not only did you give the family a good price, but you let the family know that somethings are worth more than money. You must sleep well at night.
