  2. So watching that Canadian hammer out a custom 53 Chevy truck in between wrestling his cats got me to thinking. He mentioned when doing his hood that starting with a GMC hood may have been easier with his caddy grill. While the 48 olds grill will be a ways down the road we may be $ ahead just getting a GMC hood. Would save work in the long run along with it seems GMC hoods are a bit cheaper

  3. So this is the grill setup we're thinking. To explain how she's deciding on stuff like this that wouldn't normally be what a 15 year old girl would come up with Is I basically give her a bunch of ideas. And show her pics of cars with said modifications. Then she picks from those. Two reasons why we do it this way. One. She really doesn't either know what she wants or she doesn't know how to explain it. Two. She doesn't know what exactly is feasible and/or what I'm willing to do. I'd shown her the style grill itself before. Came across this pic on FB today and sent it to her. She responded with m***ive approval lol IMG_20250221_173513.jpg

Those kinda look like Studebaker back fenders on the red truck, vette headlights?

  6. Not sure. Like I said pic was a random FB find. At this time we're planning on sticking with single headlights for two reasons. One obviously less work. And two she's in love with my 53 and seems to like touches that remind her of it. So it'll get 54 Chevy car headlight bezels and possibly the bodyline that runs next to them

Just watched the latest one today. Glad you like it.
The inner door stuff is the one to watch a time or two. Most don't cover the non glamorous parts, but they are the framework for the outside.

  9. He's actually the one that encouraged me to start my own channel. In one of his videos a few weeks ago he said something to the effect of "if you don't like it start your own channel" so I asked "what if I'm thinking about starting a channel because I LIKE what you're doing?" Lol. He encouraged me to do so. Even included a smiley face lol. I've noticed he's very good about responding to comments even if it's just a reaction. Usually get a heart reaction when I comment lol

  10. But yeah in the video where he made most of the inner structure of the doors he called making the front panel fancier and curved work for the sake of work. I pointed out that a curve is much easier to prep for paint than a sharp 90° on top of the fact paint will stick better. And less likely to build up as much grime.... important on a hard to clean area like that

I think that was for a few reasons. First, a compound curve with it's mirror is going to be a booger to make nice, given it's gotta go wide bottom to narrow top. If you look at newer factory doors, they often have yet another reverse in there too. But here's a '55 caddy door. Sure looks pretty flat!

Second, it's as he mentioned in the latest, this is going to be a show truck, so the added strength and ease of cleaning in a hidden area is not a big consideration. Those would be a whole episode of shaping, too. He's still gotta do so much just to get the outside right.
Finally, it's his tribute to how it was done back in the 50s. Nobody would be shaping a curved factory style inner back then. As shown, the factory was pretty flat! Cool how they had vents going thru that door!

  12. Video I'm talking about he made the front panels curved. And the work for the sake of work comment was one of his typical bash himself sections. He really seemed to like me pointing out the functional aspects of the route he took. Even though his likely won't get driven much he likes the instructional aspect of his videos. So I guess I added to the instructional aspect for someone that might be doing something similar that intends to drive theirs. In any event it'll save him paint prep effort

Hey, nothing that says he can't cut that 90 strip out and replace it later either, once the door is solid and able to be put on a stand! :D
EDIT: Are you talking about the lower rear corner? That was a bit quick but he could redo it.
The guy gets up each morning, goes out and does it, while dressed up in his smoking jacket and turning on the camera in a 2.5 car garage in the great white north. He doesn't endlessly repeat himself or use "like" or "you know" as a sentence modifier. He explains why he does stuff, then does it. That alone blows a lot of 'tubers away.

I like Kreature! My youngest daughter started out as my shop helper for years, then as teens do, went sideways for awhile (so I relate to the Pope saying "creature"), then after 6 years in the military she was only too glad to come home and get greasy and ride dirt bikes with dad.

Got it. That is the section I said would be a major effort to fab and mirror.
Provided there is an inner fender part that blocks the tire kickup from hitting that (and air buffeting it) it should be invisible and not an issue. For the time period, it could even be an upholstered panel!
    https://www.customcarchronicle.com/forums/topic/mid-late-50s-car-show-photos/
He could form just a 1 inch by 1 inch curve on the shrinker/stretcher and cut 'n weld to do the radius between the flat and the curve you suggest. Figure 2+ feet of weld times 4, plus finishing.
It could also just be covered with body schutz to quiet it and paint over that to avoid the flex and chipping.
It's one of those areas where a commission might want that detail and why they cost so much. It would be a nice detail, but would require a flashlight and mirror for the show judge to inspect. Even with the door open, it's not visible, tucked way forward and around the chevy opening. I agree that it's work for work's sake and not what would be done in the time frame, unless the OE olds door inner just happened to match up well with the chevy inner where they need to meet. Considering the skin was cut back at an angle and shortened, I'd guess that isn't even close!

  18. Yeah he already did both sides curved. He seemed to have done a nice job making them mirrored. I think it was a deal where if he'd done it the easier way it'd bug him knowing it was there lol
