Double flare is best, no thin sharp edge to crack. Single flare is fine with soft material like copper and fairly low pressure. Compression is fast to assemble... that's the only advantage I can see. Compression is used a lot on trucks with plastic tubing for air controls, but they have a steel sleeve inside the tube to compress against and if air leaks slightly, so what? Low pressure fuel lines on my old 6.9 diesel use fat rubber ferrules successfully, but, of course, diesel is not nearly as flammable as gas.

My opinion, do the best you can on everything you do and you'll have far fewer problems in the future. As alchemy said, "Why risk it?".

  2. Well the stock is a compression fitting. That said, I can always use a new tool. Time to learn flaring lines.

I used one of these for nearly 50 years, not always successfully on the first try.

A couple years ago I said phuket and paid the extra dough for one of these.

What a difference in the quality of the result. However, if you have to fix a line under the car in a restricted space the first one is the one you (meaning I) need.

I used one of these tools to make a single flare for the 5/16” fuel line today.

It works really well for that purpose too.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think the propaganda for the fancy one said it will bulge fuel lines too.

  6. I just ordered the Titan 1/4" and 3/16" we will see how it goes. Looking to do a couil something like this, but on a B Motor form pump to the dual carbs.

Does anyone know who’s fabricating the Finned Side Timing Inspection Covers?

‘last weekend I partook in the 15th Annual Black Forest Run.

250 trouble free miles, starting off in drizzling rain, ending in bumper to bumper traffic as I drove through the city, as I crossed from west to east of the city.

It was a fantastic run. Pre-42 cars. Great bunch of entrants.
2 bangers powered cars, 3 with Mechanical brakes.
