This is probably a question that has been asked before but I recently bought carpet for a 55 nomad from Ciadella, it is very loose over the tunnel. people are telling me not to glue it but just lay it in, any interior guys guys out there with suggestions as to make it fit better or how to form it properly? thanks IMG_1859.jpeg IMG_1860.jpeg

My Guess is you may have to steam it to fit the floor better. The more it fit the contours of floor the tighter the fit on the tunnel. That’s my guess

  3. Lay it in place and let it sit a couple days. Preferably in the hot sun

Aldo stretching and bolting in seats and trim will do wonders.

I would glue some jute down over the tunnel . Add what is needed to get it where it fits like you want it.

It's always a good idea to lay it out in the driveway for a while on a hot sunny day, but if that's not possible you can carefully use a heat gun to soften it up and help it lay down flat. As mentioned above a steamer is another good tool. It can take a lot of tugging and pushing and pulling, so be patient. I don't think you need to glue it down.

I have never seen automotive carpet glued, but
I wonder if a double sided tape could be used in smallish quantities in strategic locations to hold it in place if attempting this by oneself if you can’t steam it ? (assuming no underfelt)

^^ I've done this ^^ But I don't know if it's a common practice, or something only I have done.

I am in the minority it seems but I glue it. Do you have a jute pad under there? It looks awfully loose.
I like the idea of laying it out for a couple of days in a warm environment. I use 3M 90 spray adhesive . It comes in several strengths, 90 is strong! I have had to slit the rugs, removed the superfluous carpet and glued it back down. I like things tight and orderly, even under the seat.

I want to be clear, I don't apply the adhesive outside the car. That would make a mess and a huge hassle installing the rugs. I use the glue to set down the trouble spots around the tunnel, under the dash, against the sills, etc.

Go to your local carpet layer and dumpster dive for some underlay foam.
    Then build up the tunnel

If you don't have a steamer you can use boiling water to shape carpet [then let it dry]
