Hello,

Spring Break is coming for the local high school hot rod/surfers. So, far away places with great waves are on the plotting GPS maps. Or, point the nose South for some great waves in the whole Orange County/San Diego County shoreline. Anywhere along the coastal shorelines only takes a couple of hours of a nice coastal cruise. These days, it is not the safest place to be South of the Border. So, the So Cal coastline provides some fantastic options for a week long surf exploration road trip.

So, if one wants to cruise in comfort, but have a nice custom hot rod, how about a 1961 Custom Corvair Pickup? The cab is extended for the taller surfer/campers, the side rear doors slide to open the bed for all sorts of arrangements, including opened doors facing the waves, so early in the morning, it is just a roll over to check out the pristine waves rolling into the shoreline from your camp/sleep spot.

The high performance turbocharged Corvair Motor would give great gas mileage and the covered bed with the sliding doors open would allow safety in inclement weather, like coastal fog or mist.

Where were you in 62? Ha! With the extended cab, the custom bucket seats would be slightly behind the front axle and therefore not take all of the initial road bumps and wheels bottoming out. YRMV
