If so, his name isn't mentioned in the R&C feature in '58, only "we defy anyone to lower a car further than this one".

Even I remember hearing/reading his name more than once.

    Sorry to family and friends.

That sounds like a great plan. If the weather cooperates, that could be quite a progression. Count me in

And didn’t he also build a 34 Phaeton with a SOHC Ford?

He built a Ford that was featured with that survivor Chevy in a Hop Up feature....

I believe Jim Green built a 1928 or 29 black two door sedan with a SOHC Ford

Sorry to see that. He was nice to me every time I saw him over the years and we got in a few good visits when the glad handers weren't around wanting to talk to someone famous. He explained ever detail of one of his cars to me one day at a show when there were few people running around looking to talk to someone well known in the car culture. I was clicking away with my camera and he showed me all the special details he had put into it.

Russ's son loves those '53-'54 Chevy's and has had his since high school. He's also into hi performance six cylinder engines and his old Chevy has a well built straight six. Cedric owns a very cool Anglia with a really hot GMC straight six too!

Enjoyed the flip up A roadster when it was new and spent some time again studying it this year at the GNRS. Practical, no but what a piece of hot rod engineering for it's day. Russ was a forward thinker.

Long before cast dropped spindles came on the scene Russ was the guy for welding up sets for 50's and 60's Chevys and Fords, others I'm sure, took two sets to make a pair.

I'm going to do my best to be in attendance to honor Russ. My plans are to trailer my coupe down, unload, drive in to this celebration of Russ's Life, visit with those of you who might know me from the Hamb, and others of course.
I hope someone has the presents of mind to have the AMBR winning roadster Russ built in'72 on display there that day, I have never had the distinct pleasure of witnessing this masterpiece firsthand.
Of course, this plan depends on getting a driver who will drive for me and a tow vehicle as I have given my '06 Silverado to my daughter and husband as their Ram scattered its rods/pistons all over I-5 awhile back.
This is a tall order facing me right now, and kind of doubtful, but I am working it with my bud, Jim who helped me with the final assembly of the coupe and also my brother.
The drive is about three hours down & back, with normal traffic but can be brutal with the dammed fool derivers we all witness these days.
So, wish me luck, after all it was Russ who installed the Jag. IFS & IRS, ........ (that I reworked to get the right stance for a hi-boy when rebuilding from the monstrosity that Ben Sebastian had created from the "Northern Star").
And once again Russ, Gods Speed our friend we miss you and yes, have a fond brotherly, hotrodders love lingering in our hearts for you that will always live with us when we recall you in memory.

I already told the wife if it isnt raining, I'm gone all day. Hell, if it is raining, I'll bring the Olds and still be gone all day. But I hope it's the roadster, it has Russ's fingerprints on it. We have to organize a procession. I know a couple Portland cops, may be we can get a motorcade escort. I wonder how you do that?

Considering PT location on 10th and Hawthorne it might be tough to keep very many cars together with all the stoplights between PT and Damascus! Likely best to get over to Foster, and just drive Foster all the was to Damascus center of town, and then on to the memorial. Easy to go down 11th to Powell and then up Powell to Foster and out.

  22. Russ was a longtime friend of my father and me. He always was always so generous. Proud sponsor of Hotrod-a-rama's. Did coatings on exhaust at no charge, formed my exhaust tubes on my coupe. He will be missed. I've already said it elsewhere, but my heart goes out to the family. I wish I could be up for the memorial. Dale Seaholm

Foster works. Traffic lights will separate the cars but locals popping a squat on the curb are going to see some cool rides. Maybe Portland Transmission can add it to their website advertising the show.

  24. Kind of what I was thinking as well, would be about the most direct over to there route, otherwise your kind of having to swing more North or South to come around.

You will defiantly not be keeping a group together though getting to foster with all the lights. If people want to roll as a group, might want to just plan on pulling off somewhere once more out of Portland.
