  2. Good for you Ryan, when I took my oldest two to basketball I was in my world. I understood.

My seven year old is Highland dancing, hell I don’t know if cheering is appropriate and every song on the bagpipes sounds the same. But I stand there with my coffee and try not to be to awkward around all the dance moms fussing with hair and kilts while I wish for a stapler to hold the damn thing together!

It doesn't change much when your grandpa either

  4. Ryan, it's something to be proud of when you child lands a job that gives them a little recognition, being seen in a commercial can lead to bigger things if that's what they want.

After a decade I suggest you just act like it's old hat to you and by now it should be, nod and drink the Kool-aid.

I wish your child all the luck in the world. HRP

Working on the video, a little at a time.
l Love the ancient images. need to go slow as my eyes have trouble with camera action.
    ( Common diagnosis cockeyed )

Nice that the young'ns are finding how to step out of the crowd and perform.
Just now sat through the whole video. Apropriate since I am in the cast of sloowww death.
Yet I did enjoy, as I must each day of diminishing value.
    Thank You

This is just the beginning! If there is compensation involved, you will have to pay income tax in the state that the ad agency is located. If it's a SAG shoot, your daughter will get an opportunity to pick up a union card. And let's not forget the fact that state laws usually require a teacher to be on hand and pretend to work. You may find it a pain in the ass, but your daughter will be thrilled!

I've been there man. My daughter was a theatre kid. I remember the drama competitions every year. I kinda miss it now that she is grown. Just enjoy this chapter while it lasts.

Yes......as a grandpa to our one and only grandson, I help encourage him in his rudimentary pursuit of ballet at age 5. For better or worse.....he is learning to pay attention......listen.....and follow directions. All things that will serve him well throughout his entire life. But yes.....hanging out with ballet moms takes a little fortitude !

    Hello,

As a proud grandfather of a young toddler from those early days, until the time she was dancing with a local troupe in ballet, we were proud grandparents. We took her to all of the daily practices, add in soccer practices between dance practices and we all had a full day. The young parents were busy at their new jobs and were doing fine. They just could not get to everything. So, that is why grandparents are born to do those “in loco parentis” jobs and be there when it is necessary.

It was uncomfortable at first, because those young parents were our son’s age, while we were their parents’ ages. But, we enjoyed the time we were able to spend with our granddaughter. She enjoyed all of the attention we gave her and we were like “new parents.” Those other soccer moms and dance parents were appreciative that we were so involved. So, it was not one of those sit off to the sides and cheer. We were involved and that was fine with us.

Her influences were looking like they were going to be part of a hot rod world. Her neighbor always drove by in a powerful sounding 1964 Mercury Comet Convertible. As we were playing in the open garage, she would run to the middle of the driveway and wave to the red convertible driving by. I once asked if she liked the sound. She said it was cool… so, there was hope, yet.

College is difficult for most and as we hear war stories, we can relate to the information. But, she is in her own path and telling us about finishing her General Ed requirements as a Sophomore was eye opening. We all had to take "X" number of classes to fulfill the classes, but, Advanced Physics? Wow! At least she took a break from daily ballet to settle in to college life. Now, there was an inkling of perhaps joining another troupe for more ballet practices. Choices, choices are the lifestyle for the next two years...

Well, she knows I like hot rods and knows of my background. But, she is now in her second year of college and is off to the races. It was not that long ago when my wife and I were in her shoes, so to speak and after college, we certainly began to formulate what our lifestyle was going to be for both of us. It still is going strong… YRMV
