The same year that Ak Miller rand the Chevy Devin, his "Pit crew" was Ray Brock. During practice, Ak realized that the rear of the racer was way to light, so he asked Ray to go to town and find something to add weight. Ray stopped at the first farmhouse, and scores a John Deere flywheel. They borrowed a stick welder from a fellow racer and welded the flywheel to the frame rails. As mentioned before, he won the Sports class.....
I asked Ak Miller long ago why he liked racing Pikes Peak so much. He told me it was because he liked to slide, and it's easier in dirt..... I then asked if he had a preference as to direction of sliding. He sid that he had two...... to the left, and to the right !!!
