10 spoke ET Gassers

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by low-n-slo54, Jun 11, 2014.

  1. Fer cryin' out loud! I hate this kind of thread.
Hey, if you like 'em, run 'em. They look ok on fenderless cars!!! SO WHAT if they aren't spindle mount, maybe people like to run brakes?
They ARE NOT GASSER wheels, spindle mount, no brake wheels were illegal in gas classes. Other than that, why keep going on an on about this?

  2. I think somebody should run 4 of 'em on a low rider. ¡Orale!

Outside of this website does anyone really care who puts what wheels on their car or make such a big deal about it? I've seen some real nice cars with them on. Not period correct sure , but each to their own.

I have 10 spoke Rockets on my truck. I liked the way they looked so I bought them. I ran into a friend who used to race an altered with spindle mount 12 spokes. He said he liked them and didn't accuse me of having fake poser wheels.

Rather different looking wheels in that ad, compared to the modern 10 spokes. True, they both have 10 spokes and bolt on, but the old M/T doesn't have that "fake spindle mount" look.

  8. I like the looks of them. Period correct or not.

I agree with Squirrel...also, there is a reason you don't see old M/T 10 spokes...they were ugly. Looks like it should be steering a ship.

Well, what you gotta take into consideration is that those M/T wheels look about as much like the "gasser" wheels as the "gasser" wheels look like real american 12 spoke spindle mounts. When you think of it that way, the entire trajectory of this thread becomes clear.;)

  12. Glad to see you here George, we always have fun with this topic. I Thought your other post was funny but its gone !

So when did the gassers rules change and drop the requried front brakes ?

    And ....

How does a bolt on 10 spoke look like a fake or pretend to be a 12 spoke spindle mout any fucking way? I see a 2 completely different wheels - not an iconic spindle mount & knock off poser.

I figured the new post said the same thing as the old one, it just said it better. Just a guess, but I'd bet the front brake rule changed at the same time as the chassis rule which allowed fully fabbed 2x3 frames, so that would be around '68, which coincides pretty well with the final demise of what the history revisionist GASSER!!!GASSER!!!!GASSER!!!!! crowd that are so enamored with these wheels half-assed attempt to pattern thier "GASSERS!!!!" after.

  14. History revisionist , I like that !

So were they a "faster gassers" or "slower funny cars" ?

We could go to fake 5 spokes then.
Take alook at the inset pic.

The new AR pro aluminum wheels has a provision for brakes but the old magnesuim ones have such a thin lip back there it would be scary.

Realrodders makes the "spindle mount" looking wheel thats on the nearest car in the inset- but the standard rotor bolts to it from the back. You bolt the rotor on and mount the wheel with the bearings.

Altereds, not gassers. Dag-nab-it! As mentioned, very poorly named by some marketing genius ( but they're STILL around)

Judging by the all the photos of half finished "gassers" for sale in the photo threads of LARS, maybe not much longer...

Had this cool chassis for low $$s. Wish I had a body for it. Halcraft wheels. Sold it to a young hot rodder in North Central Michigan.

    AMC rear end.
