Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Mar 21, 2025.

  1. Was watching a show on Motor Trend last night and there was a message box saying "New season of Roadkill starting Friday"

Several of the former Motor trend “personalities” have stated, on their own YouTube channels, that there was at least one, and probably a couple of years of their former shows “in the can”, to be released as whoever owns them now as they see fit.

What was especially interesting is that many of the “stars” mentioned never, or at least infrequently, watching the finished shows.

Frieburger claims to have had creative control over Roadkill, and that it was totally unscripted. On their other hand, it seems that there was a lot of footage shot of each of these shows, but it was the producer, not the stars, that eventually determined what the final product looked like. The stars were more or less hired actors, more than content creators. That is, the stars made up the dialogue and cracked the jokes, but someone else turned it into a more or less watchable show, with a congruent storyline.

Haven’t watched anything on “cable” in years even though I have 4-5 channels that I pay for including Discovery. Mostly watching stuff on YT these days like VGG, Rocket Restorations, Dead Dodge Garage, etc.

not surprising, considering how the audience is encouraged to be cheapskates, and we're pretty good at it

Yup, that, and most of the ads on Motortrend in my area are for term life insurance, and boner pills.

I watch roadkill on YT and more recently on MTOD then discovery+, and my adblocking gizmo seems to work great on yt, and the streaming ones didn't have ads. But the subscription to that expired.

I guess I'm a big part of the problem. Sorry guys. My eyeballs aren't for sale.

i remember the car shows on Nashville Network years ago, and how they kept popping up on new networks. maybe it'll happen with the "motor trend" shows...

It was because of Warner Brothers Discovery (owners of Motor Trend) being 41 Billion in debt and trying to cut costs.

That will be the season that finished in December on the streaming app.

They're slowly milking the shows to keep the streaming subscriptions as long as possible. When it was cancelled, there were 1-2 episodes of Roadkill not yet posted to the streaming app. That finished in December. Roadworth Rescues had a full season that has now been posted in full to the streaming app.

There are 3 remaining shows that have one full season filmed that have not yet appeared on the streaming app. Those are Faster with Newbern and Cotten, Roadkill Garage, and Hot Rod Garage. WBD indicated that those would air through 2026, so they're milking them for a while.

I don't watch cable, so I don't know what the release schedule is like there.

Me neither Anthony. Sorry guys, I don't have cable tv, never did have it, never will. Especially now with options like Roku and Tableau, etc. Silly waste of money.

Which is exactly what I said.

If you don't generate revenue from commercials, you go into debt. If you stay in debt, then you go out of business.

It's not political, it's economic. This is a basic function of Capitalism.

    Lol, okay.

WB didn't go into $41B in debt because of 5 automotive shows with small budgets...

Pretty sure you're missing the point.

It doesn't matter how they got in debt. They're eliminating everything that doesn't generate profit.

    Capitalism 101.

The cost of making these shows is only a tiny fraction of what it costs to put them on television across the globe.

Saw Freiburger on FOX FS1 yesterday doing color commentary at the NHRA races at Pomona. Dumped my Warner Bros stock last year before it totally tanked. Not even BARBIE could save it!
