i'm going to binge-watch this series now that it's pretty much at an end. i was kinda teasing piero about starting a 'lucky and piero show' and i would like to see a series on the green t being restored and seen in the background. i forget the guy's name but he seems like a good guy. also, i know lucky is working on something of his but would like to see his high speed coupe get some love.

Those rear wheels look like they were fabricated from plate and rims. Some sort of flame cut, laser cut or water jet cut center from flat sheet.

A-Frames on a T Roadster will never look okay to me. I can overlook the 4 bars on the rear, sorta.

  20. They remind me of some of the Walmart photos that make you feel like ralphing.

Tim, don’t you think that centers like this could be cut out with an abrasive water jet system? The company that I used for some custom brackets for the whatever said they can hold tolerances in the thousandths. I know that the brackets for the rear axle were perfectly sized to be a fig snit on the 3 inch axle tubes.

Yes; I believe water jet could likely hold tight enough tolerances for wheel manufacturing. If I had a personal CAD system to play with, I'd be doing quite a bit of water jet and sendcutsend activities. For wheel mfg, I'd like to see some FEA simulations before welding them up, just to put the thinker at ease. In a straight line, seems like a flat spoke wheel would be fine, but going around a corner, then add some bumps in the road, I get nervous.

Ah young paduwan! You are wise beyond your years. I remember when truck and jeep guys used steel wheels with a somewhat similar center design. One design had half the “spokes “ bent in, and half out, making the final product very strong. We should be able to use the same concept…

Nah, just ruminating about it for ha has!

  25. Wheels centers cut from plate were very common in NZ in the 60's-80's and we had a engineering firm close by that did similar, they also widened rims. They were everywhere. JW

I looked for more on the drag car. Nothing came up except a FB post of the pic and it's in a thread here on panel striped cars.
Those wheels differ from most in that the lugs are in the spoke area, not the web in between.

The off road truck wheels that were similar had more spokes and did have a convex shape to the center.
I agree that a flat center is not as strong as a dish of some sort, especially if it's curved in two directions like common steel wheels. Astros also had (have?, a member sells new ones) a single stamped center with a dish.

Jackman Wheel Company was formed in 1968 and was the go to for those kind of wheels. They're still in business selling the same flat plate center wheel for trailers and off road racers. It's the same Jackman brothers that had the '32 coupe named top 50 at the GNRS

This T has a perfect stance, not the only thing in this picture that has that.
