The horizontal bars of that grille reminds me of the tailgate for pickups hauling a 5th wheel trailer

That looks like a 1956 Olds front bumper on the drawing.

Yeah. Maybe that looks more right. And more room for bigger canted Quads.

    Thanks a lot James.
Still something off. maybe its to heavy. Dont know. Maybe another bumper setup. A friend of mine have a 56 Buick bumper/front laying around. Maybe that Works. And drawer pull knobs.

I agree it's still not really looking so good like the drawing does. The body is a bit deeper with the Merc I think....maybe? I could push the bumper higher and cant the lights more. It's a little bit of guess work if the bumper is really the right size also.

I think it needs a different bumper, but that bumper really Works on the Ray Cress 56 merc. So its hard to Get a idea. Maybe the buick 56 idea. That way it gets some horns also.

    Lars,
I think the square Mercury and the round Olds grille could work if you drop the idea of canted quads. There just isn't enough room. With a pencil sketch or digital photo it's easy to stretch and shrink, but not so in steel. I started with photos of a Merc and Olds head on to minimize perspective distortion. Then I laid the Olds photo over the Merc and adjusted it proportionally until the headlight sizes matched to give zz 56 Merc 00jpg.jpg zz 56 Olds Vette.jpg zz 56 Merc 01 work.jpg an idea of relative size.

Here's the result. I left the Olds "mustache" so you can see where one ends and the other begins.

    wow! Thanks so much!
The thing is that i really want to find a idea for the front as i think the stock merc is quite boring/square. Needs more flare. Im thinkin about doing something like Jack Arnolds 56 merc in the rear( dual packards) and thats also why i think it needs a change up front also. To top it of Im lusting for a scallop or seaweed flames paint job. On all white car. But i have a hard time seeing the solution for the front. I like the olds idea but maybe not wild enough. Hard to pin point it.

Anyone care to take a stab at editing or enhancing this photo to clean it up and even up the colors?
Actual color is a dark green., not blue. The tail-lights are from a '41 Dodge. The spare is a std spoked wheel.
This is all I could find of the 30 Model A that I drove from northeast Nebraska to Peoria IL in the summer of '65. This was my older brother's school car in the late 50's. It sat unused on the farm for a few years; then my brother and Dad rebuilt the engine prior to the trip which took 2 days; not full days by the way.
I29 was not done yet and most but not all of I80 was completed across Iowa. I74 was not done yet either.
    Quite the experience.
The reason for the the pic being in such sad shape is because when I got home from the Army, I found an old Brownie box camera in one of the upstairs bedrooms. It had some film in it, so we got it developed, but someone must've opened the camera before the developer and it suffered some light intrusion. The pic was taken right before I left for Peoria

I can send the pic via email if need be

I had an idea. Take a 1955 Packard Caribbean and use the grille and middle bar with Dagmars. Then drop the car so the middle bar becomes the bumper. You could go with the elegant Packard grille or substitute bullets, drawer pulls, or whatever.

    Hello,

I am not a photoshop person, but I like a challenge. My ordinary photo program from our laptops are good in clearing up old photos and making them get in focus. But, as you can see, the results are sometimes out of reach. Photoshop does have its own makeover part of that program. So, perhaps the expert, @themoose would have time to fiddle around.
    upload_2025-4-2_10-11-10.png
I did several tries and the two different ways to change and bring out some detail brought out some success. But the larger I got and the clearer I got, the grain started. Then the photo was not clear, but grainy.

Remember, it is difficult to get an over exposed photo to get back to its original intended form. The light just kills everything. I have done film cannister changing in my 35 mm Pentax camera in the dark corners of a room, in the back of the sedan delivery and even in a closet. But, sometimes a stray light beam comes from somewhere and destroys the first long leader necessary to thread the reels in the camera.

So, instead of a 36 shot roll, it comes out to 30 or so... Then we went to light tight, black bags for loading and everything always had absolutely no light and a full 36+ set of photos was guaranteed.

There are other photo programs available online and they offer their reconstruction with wonderrful colors and images. I tried several and the results are terrible to not so good. so, I did my own version with what I had on my own laptop. You have similar photo programs built into your computer so, give it a try. Before you decide to go to a computer program online, get a sample of what it will look like before sending in any money. YRMV

The problem is you are trying to restore detail that isn't there to be restored.
For example, if the colours are flat, you can improve them, but they have to be there to begin with.
