Technical 5spd not T5

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alphabet soup, Mar 31, 2025 at 8:03 AM.

  1. I just picked up a 5spd trans. It's supposed to have come out of a Monza. It doesn't look anything like a T5, but it is a Warner trans. Anyone have any info? I'll post a picture later. Gene.

Just did a search because I haven't thought of a Monza in decades. Looks like the trans is a
Borg-Warner T-50 manual transmission. Also looks to be the first American car with a 5 speed.
I can't remember the last time I saw one of those, the car not the trans.

Okay for light duty engines, like 4 and V6. The only V8 G.M. ever put it behind was and Oldsmobile 260.

  4. ..Did they not put it behind the 262 V-8 in the Monza?

they were an improvement on the vega. for some reason, as i recall, the california version only came with a 350 sbc. i rode in one once and they definitely weren't made for anyone over 6 feet tall!

I saw one last Wednesday, it was on a trailer going the other way on freeway between tucson and phoenix.

Would be neat to see a picture of the transmission, to remind us what it looks like.

I ran one in my 28 coupe, I broke the tail shaft off while dumping the clutch. It was a great driver before that.
