I have a 1940 mercury which is missing the interior door handles and window crank handles. Do 1949-1950 interior handles fit / interchange?

Ford cars are still square in '50 and '51 went to splines. Don't know about Merc's or trucks.

Didn’t know that. I thought ’49 was the last of the square drive. I pick up every square drive Ford and Merc inside handle of that year that I find in nice shape. I have a big box full now.

Many many years ago, I changed the body on my '51 club coupe and replaced it with a '50 business coupe body. Then changed EVERYTHING on it to be correct '51 stuff. That included changing the door and window mechs because of the difference. Also dash, wiring, etc. It was a big job but the '51 body had been hit several times in bad places and the '50 body was great. Lots of differences.
