I recall reading some years back about someone who came up with a treatment for aluminum wheels to make them look like polished magnesium, with that particular hue you only get from polished magnesium. I don't remember if it was in a discussion here, or if I saw it somewhere else.
Just for reference. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/06/i-found-facebook-page-for-magnesium-rims.html
DDDenny, those could use some Gibbs oil. The white powder is actually powered oxidation, and is destruction in progress.
Graphite powder can also be used for the opposite effect. Model builders and “cosplayers” rub it on gloss white paint for a fairly convincing dull chrome look. This is a plastic helmet.
Honey... the inside of the dishwasher has kind of a dull chrome look to it. It wasn't like that before, was it? Before what? Before we went on vacation and Danny watched our dog.
The wheels look good. I'm just wondering if the rust is going to take over cuz you gave it so much to eat. Report back in a month.
I took that to mean rust was already forming with the graphite. I probably misunderstood. It's happened a couple times.
Wheels look great, very magnesiumish. Just wanted to point out, graphite and moly are not the same thing, 2 different minerals. Moly obviously works. I hope the effect lasts.
Copy that! When I get off work I’ll double check to see if it’s Moly or Graphite. I know it’s the green CRC brand for sure.

You sir have solved my problem. Now to get the wife out of the house for 4 or 5 hrs. Excellent job!!!!!
I like how you got the "Spin Tires On Pavement" sign in the background. That's a sweet ass ride it's on my list!
‘62 is when they started with this hood. 60/61 had the “Pig Nose” hood! I actually have a 60/61 4-headlight grille that I’d like to throw on. I really love the 4 headlights with the brows more than the ‘62-only grille. The white truck here is a 60/61 with the 4-headlight grille and pig nose hood.
So I just ordered the same wheels for the front of my car and what to try something similar …what machining needed to be sanded off and what did you sand it with? As for sandblasting, you used course media? Did you blast the front and back? I beleive those wheels are not clear coated on the lips, and the centers painted/powdered? Did you have to get the “cast look” off with the media? Do they need to be a smooth as the lip?
So these are the new ET 5 spokes…all The owner did was take them out of the box and used “blueing” for guns, literally wiped it on until he got the color he wanted and this cars been driven in rain and snow and they still look great after a year. I didn’t want to spend double so I went with the American TTO’s…
