Well it wouldn’t feel right to not add one last Jimmy comment to my thread here being he was such a huge part in making this jalopy happen. Rip my friend
Don’t know why, but I keep being reminded of the kids book “we’re going on a bear hunt” can’t go around it, can’t go over it, we’re gonna have to go through it. time to dig in and get these cars on the road.
I remember when Austin started with little to nothing and turned it into something worthwhile…his entire effort was analogous to picking oneself up by one’s bootstraps!!!
Spending the day working on the 34 today, got the motor swung in a couple days ago, if anyone has some insight on getting the flywheel of a Chevy lined up and drilled for a ford pressure plate in all ears, kinda my next step. Everything fits pretty good. I’m gonna have to switch to some ram horns
Generally speaking, that job is done on either a Layth or a Mill where you can start on the true center then mark the radius of the new bolt center diameter then drill the bolt holes needed on that line. You sure don't want the Ford PP off center when you light up the motor.
I'm pretty sure there is a mercury pressure plate that bolts up to the chev flywheel then use a ford disk
Yeah we talked about that and we even found the part numbers for the new ones being made but he’s decided to go this route. We can probably throw a rock and hit a buddy with a lathe and a mill so it shouldn’t be a big deal.
my condolences man...I labor away at this hobby without any car guy friends at all wishing every once in a while for someone to lend a hand, or shoot the shit with in the shop, or even to understand my stories or the nerdy facts I've collected...those friends are few and far between ...maybe his memory will be a motivator...RIP
There's so many different ways to get the same job done and most of us want things done our way with what we have on hand that I tend to just give the simple answers to that specific question. None of us are doing anything that hasn't already been done or can't be 1-800 Visa handled. It's not always the way a guy wants to do things. Hense my answer here. When I was first starting with this Addiction we didn't have that luxury. Heck, Visa didn't even exist yet.
Easy peasy job for any machine shop. Last time I had a flywheel milled and drilled cost me only $50 and that was just a few years ago. Andy
I had forgotten about the merc pressure plate! If it’s a bolt on fit like folks are saying it seems to be the simplest being I was going to buy a new one to begin with
I bought a brand new Merc PP that bolted right up to my chevy flywheel from Wilcap. But that was over 10 years ago.
Yeah I’m not even finding the Borg and Beck piece available now. I followed a dead end link and it looked like it was over $700 before the trail went dead. sounds like drilling for the second pattern is the route to go nowadays
Fort Wayne Clutch builds and sells pressure plate you will need to adapter the Chevy to Ford if you can’t get yours drilled to a new patter
