I have my 49 MErC in a restoration shop and I’m getting told the headliner will have to come down for wires to run through the roof line to the rear section of the car ! Does the rear window have to come out to do this ? Any suggestions to bypass doing that ? I’m thinking the dome light wiring can remain , change the bulb , bypass the rest and run the wiring through the floor pan under the carpet ! IDK ! Looking for suggestions Thanks
I would go with your idea of running new wiring under the carpet. Heck of a lot of unnecessary work otherwise.
100% under carpet. Especially if the headliner is original and in good shape. Messing it up could be a $2000+ problem getting it redone.
You can get flat 7 core insulated wire which lies nice and flat under the carpet from trailer supply places.
My 49 Buick has the tail light wiring run through the A pillar and over the door and rear side window. So the headliner would have to come out to rewire as stock. But with a good headliner I would run the wires under the carpet.
