Just picked up this setup. It looks like a lot of it was once chrome plated at one time. Anyone recognize? Supposed to fit 42 -48 Ford spindles, will be testing this evening.
slightly different design from this one, but it does look similar and generally they put their name on their stuff.
The rotors look a little heavier than what I see on go karts, but calipers sure look like Hurst Aireheart stuff. Probably car rotors by Hurst also. Nostalgia buffs love the old Hurst stuff.
It appears your shop superintendent doesn’t approve of the setup. Send it to me, I’ll be sure that it doesn’t upset him anymore… Hey I had to try
Check this thread for info, https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/airheart-a-caliper.1330180/#post-15487089 It looks like your calipers will use pucks that are 1 3/4" diameter, Speedway should be able to help with those.
So, I'm thinking this isn't a mass-produced unit. Calipers have a little W inside what looks like the state California cast mark. The caliper mounting brackets, dust caps, rotor mounting hubs all have tool marks. Also looks like everything was Chrome plated, painted black and silver. Decided to let calipers soak a day before trying to push the pistons out.
Thanks for thread link, I copied these. Will be making these "assembly" and "dis-assembly" tools, thanks again!
I've got a mess going on here, black paint under thick grey paint... Chrome plated aluminum Hubs and Stainless Spokes are going to look great, but Rims aren't looking so good.
I had these on an old altered . Problem , like many early calipers , the seal is on the piston . Whick means the sealing surface is on the caliper aluminum surface . Easy back in the dat , the bare calipers were $20 . Now you’re going to resleeve the calipers if pitted . I haven’t checked if they’re repops being made . Any shop that does the vette calipers should be able to do these .
I was sniffing around on kart/Hurst, These guy's came up, Do all kinds of vintage stuff.. I'd bet they can hook you up..
Would you believe each caliper has 34 pieces? All the pistons were stuck really tight, later realized it was due to pucks mushrooming. Maybe from a lot of heat?
Still cleaning laced (wire)wheels, I'm pretty sure they were made by "Hallcraft" but can't find a exact example. Got new O-rings/seals from a local hydraulic shop, they have an old school parts desk with tons of knowledge. They have build a few perfect "kits" for me over the years.
Try CLR in a tray and let the wheel/rim sit in it. Rinse and repeat. I’ve seen orange cleaner /mixed with Awsome from Dollar Tree. Worked well on the chrome stuff from my 57. Not perfect but cleaned it up 300 percent
Thanks for ideas, I did use some old brake fluid which worked pretty well. Plan is to just cleanup and either paint rim white or just clear coat once all cleaned/polished up.
Cleaned up pretty well, I plan to paint the rim and polish the stainless hubs and spokes. BUT, what color? I might just clear coat, but am considering white or red, or red, white &blue .
Ended up clear coating, ready to install on some 42-48 square spindles. Fingers crossed for true and close to balanced.
