Column shifted 'glide? Rare now! I always liked the '67s, the only year with vent windows.

Column shift Turbo 400, 325 hp. I know it since new, but I'm about the 11th owner.

    Always a Camaro lover. [IMG]
My younger brother bought a new '67 RS/SS just like this from Quality Chevrolet in Seattle when discharged from Uncle Sams army. He lived with me; I was 24, married, two little girls, owned ny home. ( I got him a quality job as a painter where I was an iron worker. On the way home one day we stopped in at Quality, he ordered a turquoise, 350, four speed, RS/SS (as I said,) and then we sat back and waited. A week or so later the salesmen selling to him called, asked us to stop in again if we would. When doing so he informed Gary that he had a RS/SS that he could drive home that very day if he wanted to do so, not turquoise, but butternut yellow, and that it was out in the garage at that very moment to see, should (he/we like to do so). ARE YOU KIDD'N US????,
It gets better.!! He went on to say that the owner of Quality Chev. , special ordered the car for his 17 year old son, had the 350 jerked, balanced, blueprinted, and the four speed inspected to meet factory spec's, Also tells the kid if you get in trouble with it, I'll take it away from you. Well, you all can take it from here, and that is why it was offered to my brother.
It was sold to him with insurance as part of the financing, and a minimum down payment which I put up for him and we went merrily on our way. We were also informed very sternly that the insurance strictly forbids any form of racing and would be cancelled immediately if that were found to be the case.
Well, SIR, this little yellow thingy was wickedly fast. (Seattle International Raceway) at that time would hold "Camaro vs. Mustang" runoffs, periodically, and the temptation was just too damned much for Brother to stand. We prepped the little yellow beast with new plugs, clean air filter, ethel gasoline, ran "B stock stick ", Gary wiped out all the Camaro's, then took aim at the remaing Mustangs, eliminating all of them one by one and taking home the four foot golden, top gun trophy.
We we only did that one more time as I recall, scared of the insurance restrictions, but was sure fun while we did it and those trophy's sure

looked good on my work bench and then Garys later on in his married life.
Oh Yeah.....................Just got to throw in: Always just thought the designers really screwed up the ' side profile of the 69 profile and never thought much of the car after the model year 1968.

  6. Bought an 87 just like this one at 17, except mine had the spoiler. Was my first commuter work car. Between the payment, gas and insurance, I didn't have much left over lol.

  15. not many if I recall of the actual festival cars. Most were either L48 350 or L35 396/325hp cars. I know there is a list floating of the vins of most of those cars taken in that picture. The festival cars are the ones with the decal on the quarter panel behind the door.

Someone has the idea to write them down in 69 when that photo was set up. I know the main 2 were actually L89 cars (375hp with aluminum heads) and TH400's but then were sent to the GM tech center where they then for some reason swapped the heads back to iron rectangle ports. Along with going over every part with a fine tooth comb to make sure the cars had zero issues on race day. Something Dodge apparently didnt do with the Challenger in 1971.

More info on the 69 Pace cars and its Z10 sibling.

I thought Mario Andretti won one of the 2 cars that paced the 500 in '69....
I should have asked him when I met him at the Woodward Cruise some years back.... Fat chance I'll ever see him again...:(:(

  17. he won one of the cars there, not sure if it was one of the actual pace cars or a similarly prepped car that was just for the winner of the race.
