Will the full diameter of the rubber be supported by the frame mount?

Yup. The side gussets fold down about half way threw the biscuit if that helps picture it.

OK! I just wasn't seeing it. Should have known you would have it covered. Good work!

IMG_9135.jpeg Measured 5 zillion times, tossed a few apparently strong enough tacks and sat the engine down! The biscuits squished just enough that the exhaust manifold hits the steering column. But just by a hair. I’m going to grab some thick fender washers to shim it back up and see where we sit.
    IMG_9136.jpeg
engine is currently sitting on the mounts with the hoist attached with a slightly slack chain just in case. It’s been a couple hours and it hasn’t moved at all but I figure better safe than sorry and I’m gonna have to lift it to shim it anyways. IMG_9137.jpeg plenty of steering box and exhaust room

Aren't those ford biscuits supposed to have cups around the bottom of the upper biscuit, to keep them from squeezing out??? Which also act like a washer/shim under them?

Some are like that. Some just have a metal band around them. These have like a pyramid shape on the top, maybe cone is a better word? Anyhow looks like that’s where any squish has taken place as I’m sure is intended.

I had thought about sitting a small block on one of these just to guess how much it might compress under weight and then factor that in but at some point I just have to stop measuring shit and just put it together.

Guess I gotta eat my hat on those rubbers. Got home from work and they’ve squished are smushed down to somewhere between 3/4 and 7/8 of an inch. Looks like roadster shop has the best deal on the metal banded units but now I’m leery about what to order.

Are those rubber biscuits you have hard or soft?

Mine from Roadster Supply with the band are really hard.

Apparently soft lol these are compressed I would guess 50% gonna try to order some tonight before I go to bed. Was feeling productive this bums me out but can’t let it slow me down

edit- the squished to 3/4 or 7/5 in the previous post is over all height with weight on them

Ordered the roadster supply cushions, I’ll take these squishy ones and use them for a trans mount or something

Full fender sedan with the nose down in 1953? I’m filing this under inspiration while I wait on parts. IMG_9142.jpeg

“Power of the hamb “ is pretty cool some times.

waiting on motor mount supplies to make it to my door step I searched “building transmission mount.hamb” and the very first result is @Paul building a trans mount for the exact same transmission I’m using and the same holes I'm going to use AND that the rubber mount I want to use can work!

    jackpot! This helps a ton!

I turned to my wife and told her what I found and when I did the math on how old the thread is I said “wait, no that can’t be right?” Lol

I always like sharing all that info for a few reasons. 1: when I forget where I found it or the details I can come back here 2: if anyone else needs the info or wants to see further detail. 3: I tag the OP to say thanks and feed back, I feel like that encourages people to continue posting tech and threads in general. Also with old threads they might volunteer added new information that’s developed or learned since originally posted.

And there are the ones here who bitch about bringing up an old thread like anything we do here is new.

Ordered just after midnite on Friday and before dinner Monday my parts are here from roadster supply. One day ahead of the tracking number estimate! Popped them Open quickly they are much much harder. Maybe tonight I’ll try to swap them out. Right now they are twice as tall as the installed ones that are smashed. I’ll measure and compare when I swap them

Glad to hear they're harder. I was surprised how hard they were. Interested to hear how they work out.

    Mid day update :)
    IMG_9299.jpeg
I swapped out the rubbers and hardware and measured the squished and un installed heights of each. Initial measuring shows the roadster supply rubbers are initially taller and only compressed 1/32 of an inch! So installed they are still taller than the one ones before install.
    IMG_9300.jpeg
I got as far as threading the bolts until they got to the nylock section and stopped so I don’t ruin them/ use them up. Both little lips registered in the mounts etc.
    IMG_9301.jpeg
I did not get time to measure level or placement etc but I did try on the drivers side manifold. It fits! But just barely touches. Before I shim it or hit the manifold with a flap disc I need to let the cushions sit for a couple more hours and the measure everything. No point shimming if it’s not even centered or something.

Mine with a SBC on them haven't moved in almost 7 years, the motor doesn't even rock when you rev it. I wouldn't worry about them.

Alright so I spent the evening measuring and leveling and on and on. I think it might be just a hair different than it was but everything clears so I currently don’t see a reason to mess with it. My only interference at the moment is that drivers side exhaust manifold. I’m continuing to level and check etc. if it’s dead level I’m going to hit the manifold with a flat disc if it’s not I’ll shim that side up to gain clearance and level. Worse case I build headers. Thinking some Belond style center dumps.

anyhow I’m moving onto the trans mount. Last night I cloned the tube mount I have in cardboard after realizing that would be easier to manipulate into the space than gaining room to get the metal one in without moving the trans.
    IMG_9322.jpeg
all the photos I took look the same as the rest so here’s a photo of the hood and grill on again and the front drivers tire tucking into the fender.

I was soooo close to just sitting the front end back on the ground but I do t want the drivetrain to move at all and dropping the front end 5 ish inches could certain shift stuff that’s not bolted down. IMG_9321.jpeg

Stupid question; judging from the pics, it looks like a couple shims at the trans will make more of a change than at the engine side mounts as far as getting clearance at the exhaust/steering. Is the driveline angle locked in and where you want it?

Yup the fan has to be nearly perfectly parallel with the radiator to give enough room top and bottom.

I can bolt the manifold on its just the meat around the very last/bottom bolt hole scrapes because it’s so thick. Good thought though. Everything’s just tacked so I nothings 100% set.
