I just trying to figure what this adapter fits? I know it's to early Ford, but what does it bolt to and who made it???
Trans-Dapt made it. Someone will probably tell you what it fits before I get home from work tonight and look at my catalog.
Heathen hasn't made it home so here is the info Engine Ford & Mercury 54 and up 272 -292-312 i.e Y block Transmission Ford 32-48 Mercury 39-50 Basically Y-block engine to early Ford trans According to my 1965 Weiand catalog a Trans-Dapt AD-4 was $32.90
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-transdapt-adapter-numbers.78455/ is one place to look them up, but yeah, AD-4 is Y block to flathead transmission (or to whatever transmission adapter you want to use to fit it to another transmission)
Well since this mystery has been solved, maybe someone can tell me what this one fits. Speed Gems SG 59. I posted a few months back but no one could ever make a definite id. I know it’s an early ford on the trans side, but not sure what engine it fits. Bought it at an estate sale just because, well I don’t know, I guess because it would look cool hangin on the wall. Lol
looks to me like it's an adapter that is missing the other half, which would bolt to whatever engine you get the right plate for. And it adapts the 59AB flathead transmission to that. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...starter-for-hemi-cragar-adaptor-help.1035445/
Ahh. That makes sense. Some of the old ads showed a Speed Gems number very close to this one and it was for a Chrysler or Dodge or something. I can’t remember exactly. Looks like I got my wish…lookin cool hangin on the wall. Lol. Thanks Squirrel.
Thank you guys for the info. This is what makes the HAMB a great place. With a wealth of info and like minded individuals.
I have an adapter to run an early Ford pattern behind a short bell 331 Chrysler in my dirt car and it is a two piece unit. From what I can remember, that looks like half of it.
I found the original thread when I first asked about it and someone posted a pic of a speed gems ad showing a SG 5859. It looks like mine and I’m wondering if the 58 was the number of the other half?
A lot of early hemi adapters were made to be used in conjunction with the thick aluminum plate that was on the rear of the block from the factory.
